View Poll Results: What do you about the cirriculum for excellence?
It's a great idea. 2 6.06% More pointless tinkering with a system that was working fine, to make it more PC, which will go tits up after the first couple of years. 24 72.73% I have no idea what it is. 6 18.18% Don't care, I'm off to uni soon enough/I'm at uni. 13 39.39% It will just be the same as the old one, but with more forms and pressure on teachers. 11 33.33%

Curriculum for Excellence - Your opinion
I'm bored in the car so I thought I'd make this up.
Anyway, everyone's heard about it, but it seems that noone really knows what it's about.
If I've got it right, the goverment are reforming the current system to make it more relevant to real life and develop skills like communication, numeracy, social awareness etc...
Standard Grades and the Ints will be replaced with National 4s and 5s, where National 4s will be assessed internally and will be the same standard as General level, and National 5s will be assessed externally like the Credit exam.
Subjects like English, the sciences, computing etc will be reformed and updated.
Highers will be seen as the 'gold' standard.
I don't know what to think of it really, as I hope to be free from SQAland come August
What are your opinions on it?
If anyone has a better explaination then please post it here, or PM me it so I can edit it in. You can get more info here.

Re: Curriculum for Excellence - Your opinion
Seems a good idea but it will difficult to implement properly. If the final exam for actually deciding the grade is the same in these National 4+5s as it is in SG General/Credit then I think loads of teachers will just ignore that curriculum for excellence exists. Doesn't help that people don't know what it actually is apart from encouraging cross-curricular learning.
I got this leaflet through the door the other day : http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/Images/...cm4-600701.pdf
What a lot of crap it is. "Physics has moved on from learning the electromagnetic spectrum to understand forces, electricity and waves." Should put stuff which is actually informative in these leaflets rather than writing nonsense like that.
Teachers marking the national 4s seems like a cost cutting measure too. It means there will be some bias marking which will lead to better results and curriculum for excellence can be branded a success though. -

Can we talk about primary here too? My dad's a primary teacher and he is 100% against it. The ideas are bad and are not properly thought through. He doesn't know how he's supposed to teach it as no one has made sure people understand it, but he'll have to teach it from August - in fact I think he might be making a token effort just now, not sure. The whole idea of marking a piece of work and having a comment but not an actual mark is pathetic - when will the marks come in? When people sit the new equivalent of SG/Int 2 and suddenly realise that they can't do a subject, but they haven't been told this yet because of PCness? It's a train wreck to be.
