    New computer, laptop or pc?
Hi. Im planning on going to manc uni in september to do civil egineering. I am looking at getting a new computer but am struggling whether to get a desktop or a laptop. Any advice would be good, I am currently leaning towards a laptop due to the portability and I can use it in lectures? I am also considering a mac, would this be a problem as I understand manchester uses windows.

    Thanks

You can run Windows on a Mac.

Honestly though, I'd speak to your lecturers, find out if there is any OS specific software you'll be using and how much power it needs and base your decision on that. A desktop will be cheaper, but I can see a lappy being more useful.

If you need something to run windows on, don't get a mac - you're basically paying a huge amount more for the shiny simple operating system, then not using it.

If you have mac money to spare, get a decent desktop and a netbook. I have a very high end desktop and an acer aspire one. Cost me less than a MBP.

I'd also recommend posting this in the tech&computers forum.
