Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?
Right, first of all, I don't mean to sound up myself, but I'm just really disappointed I did not get all the way.
Here's my results.
Biology, Computing, English, French, Graph Comm, History, and Maths = All 1s.
And then Art = 2. AGGGHHH!!!
And mainly why I'm disappointed is because my teacher said I'd get a 1 for it and I'd have nothing to worry about in the exam. Well I finished my painting in the exam and I've been given a 3 for it? D= Then my Critical writing was given a 2 even though my teacher had said both my essays were a 1?
So yeah, I came so close to getting 8 ones, but these two art elements have brought my grade down, when I dont think they should have.
Is there any way I can appeal for it?
I know 1 and 2 there's not much difference, but the fact of coming so close to getting 8 ones, and having it taken away by something which I'm supposed to be good at is really hard to bare. The other subjects I really put tons of effort into leading up to the exams, hence the good grades. But I don't understand why I lost out on the art.

Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?
Appeal it when you're back at school, your teacher is the only person who knows if your work is good enough to appeal. Personally I think it's unlikely. Otherwise, get a grip - it's only standard grades and the majority of people have done much worse than you.
Edit: Out of interest how does your teacher know what you wrote in your critical writing? Isn't that cheating?
Edit 2: "something im supposed to be good at" so basically you thought you were going to get a 1 with no effort.Last edited by Delaney; 05-08-2010 at 12:43. -
Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design? This. No one cares about SG's and it's not like universities look at much else than making sure you have at least a 2 in English and Maths. You probably won't get an appeal, sorry.(Original post by Delaney)

Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?Well I care about Standard Grades. Getting 8 ones has been my goal since before I started 3rd year and when I lost my sister to cancer in March, I became more focused and determined to get the eight 1s, as that really was the only thing I could really focus on. And to me, even though I got next-to-best grades possible, I feel as though I have failed. Hence why the 2 in Art is taken such a hit on me.(Original post by Vitamin D)

Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?Know exactly how you feel about that 2 right now. In my exams I revised really hard for my subjects, and English, Chemistry and Biology were my best ones, so I thought I'd get ones in them. WRONG! I got a 2 in Biology when I know I'm capable of better. Got ones in everything else, and an A in Int 2 History, but that 2 in Biology is making me feel a bit depressed. I've been aiming for all ones ever since I decided I wanted to go to Bath to study Pharmacy and my parents have told me that because of that 2 I'm basically screwed and will have to look somewhere else. I'm thinking of appealing too, I know I should've got a one, and if we don't appeal we'll never know, right? Seriously determined to get an A in Higher Biology now, so in a way that 2 might have done me good. Gave me a bit of a push. Still furious with myself though. You're not the only one feeling this way.(Original post by McWolf)

Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?
Ask your teacher to appeal it. And ask how you managed to get a 2 for whatever it was she said should have been 1's.
You never know, your teacher might have already started the appeal process for you knowing you got all 1's for your other subjects and should have gotten a 1 in the exam.
But if you can't get it, don't worry. I know you feel bad about it but once you've got highers or whatever qualifications you go for no one cares about your S Grades any more.
Congratulations on all of your results by the way. I know you're disappointed with the 2 but that is an awesome set of result!

Urgh, your parents are lying.
That one 2 you have will not stop you from doing what you want. You must have just messed up in the exam because of nerves or something.
Just take the higher and try your hardest. There is a big jump from S Grade to higher, but just because you didn't get a 1 doesn't mean you wont make it.
Try to appeal it though. And if you can't get it appealed (and even if you do) make sure your teachers know exactly how disappointed you are with your result. -
Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design? It's obvious that you've worked very hard and I'm sorry about your sister, but usually to get an appeal there has to be a two grade difference. Say if you got a 3, you could probably only be appealed to a 2 if your prelim was a 1. When there's one grade of a difference you could probably count on one hand how many of those go through a year, and I'm not sure if the SQA hand out many appeals for standard grades anyway.(Original post by McWolf)

Re: Can I appeal for my Standard Grade Art & Design?Well my Expressive Activity element (the exam) was a 3, whereas I've always been told my work is worth a 1. Even in 3rd year, I had pieces worth a 1. But I'm guessing you can only appeal if it's the final grade which is two grades below, huh?(Original post by Vitamin D)

Even if they did I think that is pretty good grounds for appeal.
That is such a sad story

Congrats on your results by the way
Even if you're disappointed with your 2, they're still great.

I just wish I could have that frame of mind and look at it that way. Sometimes I wish I hadn't been so focussed, then it would be easier to accept. =\
I guess it would have been easier getting a 2 in French as oppose to Art. I was expecting to end up with a 2 in French because I found the listening difficult. But Art's one of my best subjects, so having the worst grades compared to my other subjects, is really annoying. -

I myself got a 3 last year along with other 3 and the highest I got was a 2 count your blessing think some people are worse off
