UEA Accommodation

I have a question -
I'll be staying in the Village (C-B). I plan to have 2 PC systems with me, one will be a desktop, another will be a laptop. I've read that all devices must be registered separately, and a router can't be used (due to the NAT function). Typical Hubs/Switches don't really exist anymore - but most home routers are able to switch off the NAT function and act as a switch. Is this allowed?

If not, I was wondering if there are enough network ports to plug in both the desktop and the laptop simultaneously?

I still haven't heard, It's making me so nervous! Should I call UEA to check? I really want constable terrace or norfolk/suffolk

And haha I'm the opposite to you in that respect. It's really bad, but I turn everything into a competition. Competitions that I have to win, as I'm a perfectionist too

I know, in a way it's good, as I can't wait to be there, but I still have a lot to sort out, which makes it bad. But tbh I'm not a drinker anyway, so I'm not sure 2 weeks of freshers is actually a good thing Well you pay weekly, so I just have to pay for a few more weeks where it overruns. I think the longest year is about 42 weeks, but I'm not sure if that involves easter/xmas holidays etc, so I'll just have to see when I get to that year. So it does make accommodation slughtly more expensive, but I shall live with that to study medicine

Yeah it's quite exciting, but I'm slighlt yworried too. Cause I arrive earlier in my accommodation, it will probably just be me and one other medic there, so I best hope I get on with them (and I'm not the best at initiating conversations/small talk) so we shall see

I love crossing things off lists. Although then they look messy which annoys me (what with me being a perfectionist and hating things messy) so I usually end up re-writing them omitting the things I've already done...

I'm going to be honest with you here and tell you I'm not sure! Your best bet is to contact the IT Deprtment in the library and ask them. They deal with all the networking in the residences.

I can let you know that there is only one port in the room though. You need to plug into "data" not "voice" - the voice socket doesn't do anything.

I only get competitive come pub quizzes- then I must win ( or team) come fire or brimestone, and training on drunk and dissorderly will only come in handy for weekend A&E shifts.

I'm sure freshers week x2 will be a good thing- get to meet far more people and a chance to get on better with the people who will be going through hell together. Have to admit that I feel bad I laughed when you said 42 weeks of studying

The process of initiating conversations will probably end up failing spectacularly but at least there is now something to chat about- I remember someone suggesting taking a traffic cone , guess it works a treat.

Am also looking forward to late night fire alarms, I'm sure standing around in the cold with little clothing provides another chance to socialise

They've only been sending the accommodation offers out for 2 days, I imagine it'll take the rest of the week at least yet. Patience.

Thanks, I know I'm being imaptient but I can't help it! It doesn't help that one of my friends has already been allocated constable, and I can't help feeling I may have missed out...fingers crossed I hear today!

Does anyone know if there are locks on the doors to our individual rooms or just our flats as a whole? I'm sure everyone will be great and noone actually would take anything, it's just i'm taking a laptop and I'm a bit apprehensive about just leaving it in my room? Maybe I'm worrying for nothing but you know. I'd be so devastated if anything got taken as I in no way would have the money to replace it ://

Is that the same with the village? So will only larch/beech/yew etc be evacuated rather than the whole building? Cause aren't the village buildings closer together?

Yes, your individual rooms have locks on. We recommend that you lock your door every time you leave the room so as to keep it secure. Remember to think you may trust your flatmates but do you trust all their friends as well?

On a more positive note if the worst does happen and something gets taken from your room every single student in our residences has insurance included as standard with their room. You will get details of this when you arrive with your licence and keys. Basically what happens is that we add £6 to your rent and that covers you for the whole year. The reason its so cheap is that every student has to have it.

Hiii.....im soon to be a student nurse ( 6th sept) and i will moving to the uni next week but I still havent had an accomodation offer. Do you know when they will be giving them out as i know many of us are quite anxious because we have heard nothing, Thanks!
