Am I being really stupid? Can't find this info anywhere
I've been trying to find a definitive list of the sort of essentials we'll have to take to uni with us but I can't find one anywhere, so was wondering if someone who stayed in the Lawns last year could help

(I'm staying in the lawns, semi catered in case it makes a difference)

For example, with bed clothes, I'm assuming we have to take sheets, quilts, quilt covers, pillows, pillow cases etc? (everything except the mattress basically)

As for kitchen stuff, do we have to take our own utensils? What about pots, pans etc?

I know I probably sound like a right tool asking these but I don't want to turn up with two of everything, or, conversely, turn up and not have a comfortable bed to sleep on

    Thanks,
    Matthew

Yep, everything except the mattress and bed frame for the bed.

As for kitchen stuff, assuming you are catered, you will only need to take as much stuff as you think you will need for breakfast & lunch. So if you're like me and only really have a sandwich for lunch, then you wont need that much. You will need to take your own cutlery and glasses/mugs.

You will probably also not have enough plugs in your room for what you want to do, so if you have one take a power strip so you don't have to go hunting round Tesco for one.

Make sure you don't take too much stuff though, as you will gain quite a few things throughout the year and you need to move out every holiday and only have one side of the wardrobe to store things in if you don't want to haul it home.

Duvet, Duvet covers, Pillows, Pillow cases. you get a frame and a mattress provided bed wise.
In the room there is also a desk, a wardrobe, a chair.
Bring everything else you wanna fill the room with...
    -clothes
    -books
-uni stuff (paper, pens, folders, maybe any old work that might be useful for your course, hole punch, course specific items)
-posters (there is a poster fayre in the uni during the first 2 weeks with hundreds however!)
    -laptop/PC
-any power cables for things - chargers etc
-bathroom essentials, shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush and paste, sponge, perfume/aftershave, hair sprays/gel, girls: makeup, clips,
-perhaps a mini little first aid kit? some plasters, paracetamol, throat sweets (you WILL get fresher flu in week2!), scissors

IF YOU ARE SEMI CATERED... You have ONLY Dinner provided at the Lawns semicatered. Thwaite Breakfast and Dinner.

In semi-catered blocks there is a kitchen with kettle, oven, grill, microwave provided.
You need to bring anything for lunch and breakfast preparation.
    - own plate(s) & bowl(s)
    - cutlery
    - cooking implements - sharp knife, spatula, collander
    - small pan / pot

Remember however, that with nearly 30 people in your block and a kitchen on each floor, most people will bring similar things to you. That is to say, its not ESSENTIAL that you bring the food prep items as you can probably borrow, or buy as needed when you settle in and see whats missing.
Often about 12 people all come with a kettle and sandwich maker or toaster and theres loads of them all over the place. Only bring the basics and work up from there.

If you are SELF CATERED... bring everything!!!!

great shout on the extension cable!! Perhaps also a couple of coat hangers for your wardrobe but they are a thing people tend to leave behind when moving.

Ahh yes, don't forget coat hangers! I forgot mine AGAIN this year. I think I now have triple the amount of coat hangers that I need back home.

Something that isn't essential, but nice, is if you have a DVD player that you can take and live in any C block, then take it. You will probably spend a bit of time down in the common room watching things on the TV so this will allow you to veto movies you don't like or just have your friends be eternally grateful. This isn't so important if you're in any of the other blocks, though, because you wont spend much time in there.

Dont panic, even if you dont have everything you need, someone in your block or halls or house will, and no doubt you'll have something they forgot.
I say it all the time like a cliche, but you ARE all in the same boat. Everyone will be just as (un)prepared as you!!
