I've lost my itunes (laptop broke)..can I transfer songs from iPod to other laptop?
As you've probably guessed, my laptop has broken down, it just wont turn on. My itunes account was on it and I really don't want to lose a thousand songs, especially as I pay for my music. My sister downloaded iDump, which is a site that's meant to transfer songs from an ipod to itunes, but it doesn't work. Or maybe we're doing it wrong, any of you used it before? So is there any way that I can transfer the songs from my ipod to a different laptop? Oh, and I tried the home sharing thing on itunes before and it didn't work. Thankyooou.

I used a program called Sharepod, which takes everything and puts it into your music folder. you will then have to sort it out yourself in itunes, but the program will put albums in named folders and such.

I think theres alot of programs that say they do this but if they're not working there is a way of taking your harddrive out and hooking it up to another comp. (I dont know it but google will)

Can't you just open My Computer, open the ipod manually and show the hidden files (which will be the music files)? They'll be labelled by the ipod though, so you'll have to rename them all.

    --EDIT:

Wait. My bad, not show hidden. Something. Ah dammit, let me just remember. You didn't need a program or anything special though.

Yeah, I had my laptop stolen at the wonderful time of right-before-my-leaving-the-country and needed a quick fix where I wouldn't have to bother downloading programs/going into the store et al. I'm lazy.

Oh and by the way, the files will probably have been renamed by your ipod, but they should still have their individual song name/artist etc.

This is the main reason why iPods suck. Any regular MP3 player would not give you such problems.

i just got fed up with itunes and trawling through folders on a new laptop. iPods and iTunes aren't the most user friendly of things.

Actually. I hate them. I hate having to had load on itunes and deal with their ****** EQs. I had a Creative Zen Micro originally (in white with the blue LEDs so when it charged, it looked like it was breathing). It had a recorder on the mp3 itself and integrated radio. Such a gorgeous mp3 but that got stolen right alongside my laptop and I just had to rush to buy the most easily available - the ipod, unfortunately.

    Sniff. I still mourn it.

Most of my previous mp3 players were either handed down or broke easily. My iPod was a birthday present and apart from having to sort it out through iTunes, I love it.

Thoroughly had my spoilt ass handed to me.

But from a purely technological point of view, even if I weren't a spoilt brat, I'd still choose Creative over iPod.

Never used Creative, although my friend did and it looked v. swish She offered me her old one which held less songs than my dodgy one at the time, and had a cracked screen. I politely declined. I wouldn't get an iPhone at the minute though....
