I think live with it, and be proud of your culture. All cultures have negative and positive aspects. The UK is a tolerant society by and large, but our day to day culture is shallow, and we're overridden by celebrities and the like.

I like Asian cultures, since even though they're less tolerant than the UK, they're mnre traditional and have better cuisine.

I think perhaps find some middle ground. Say to your mum that you would like some time to have fun, and that it's too stifling to stay at home a lot. It would show your mom that you're mature, and can handle the issue civilly. Also, get some of your friends to carpool, since this would make it safer and reassure your mum.

Don't worry. if you do decide to uni and live on your own, you wont need to look for room mates. What ever uni you decide to go there is a list of accommodation they provide, so you just choose one of them.

btw It can't be that bad, my dad is exactly like that or worst!!!!

the problems differentwith me.Generally like other Asians if I had a maasive family full of brothers sisters cousins etc then i woudn't look to socialise outside..fine if they have rules i'll stick with it and enjoy my culture and family..
but i live with my mum 24/7
she has met my friends but still there's no way o talking to her..she doesn't understand anything..it's not like i wanna go out and get drung or high but even once in a while she says no..
she is nowhere near to comprimise with my ideas..
but then again i can't carry on living with her like siamese..i'm 17 now and it's really annoying.
there's no brother or sister to take her attention either..she doesn't have much of a social life..
and my dada i only see once in a while...like once in months and he's worse :frown:

yh but thats for the asians/refugees that consist of large families..
i know the group you're talking about but i'm not one of them..
i'm not in any group..
not the civilized english parent group or the large family asian group..
my parents are diffenet..like how do i say asian but not refugee..
like not the usual Asian parents..it's hard to explain..plus no large family..
it's really weird.

my DADS from the the group your talking about, the asians you're describing..
but the problemis I dont see him much..we have a distant relationship..
yh with my dads family which i've never een they end up as doctors and they live the typical indian way but i live with my mum so its not the same.
i'd like to be one of the asians taht you describe though..even if i didnt have a crazy life i'd have cultural family life and end with a gd career for sure.

like I said the uni do provide accommodation and as first year student you definitely most choose that or it will get confusing. there bound to be some student from your class in that building and some will be studying other course, so it's an easy way to make friends.

If you have applied to uni, dont worry and take it easy. Its february and March when you have to make a decision. If you havent applied this year take a part time job during the weekend. that should give a legitimate reason to be outside home.

Oh yh about that bet, two weeks ago my little brother came late (at about 23:45), my dad told him to go away and to come back in the morning at 6am (the weather was freezing cooold ). He went to friend yard and came about 5am tired and cold.

I guess I won

It's pretty unusual.

In fact this is the first time I've ever heard this.

Well that explains why you're never lonely. Just to make sure that you don't kill yourself in confusion. :colonhash:
