I know France is hard, but...
Discussion about medicine applications and medicine.

I know France is hard, but...
I was considering also applying there for medicine because:
it's easier to get in (though only 10% of studiants pass the first year)
I speak French (since i lived there before)
of course, this is if i don't get in to a uk medical school.
do you think it would be a good alternative? -

Just ask yourself;
Do you really want to spend 6+ years of your life with those garlic-munching surrender-monkeys?
I am hoping to get into a uk medical school first. -
Re: I know France is hard, but...
The competition in the first year is apparently nightmarish (according to a french girl from my old lab), with people misleading others about times of teaching etc and there's so much pressure to be in the small % who stay that it's pretty much just work or sleep. I know I wouldn't like it!

Re: I know France is hard, but...
OP why are you so indecisive? Your thread history:
1. Unsure about medicine?
2. Wanting to know the career path of a Dr (could have easily researched this)
3. Asking when to apply for a phd?
4. Applying during of after a degree?
Come on dude, you're an adult, don't let people on here make important decisions for you. If you want to apply to France, go for it, you know it's an alrigth alternative so don't really see the point in all these threads. There's reassurance, then there's just being spoon fed.
Good luck.

Re: I know France is hard, but...
I have a friend whose cousin lived, and studied medicine in France. I say 'studied', what I really mean is that he worked his arse off for two years, only to fail year one, retake it and fail again. He then had no choice left but to leave medicine indefinitely. I imagine it is a common thing (it has to be if you say that 90% fail to progress past the first year, though IDK how accurate these figures are). I wonder what the poor guy is doing now.

Re: I know France is hard, but...
80-90% fail the first cycle [first year] because AFAIK 100% of people that pass the baccalauréat scientifique are welcome to apply (to the first cycle). UK school leavers have already been weeded out by a year of successive hoop jumping and generally being UCAS' bitch.
