How lenient are RH?

I want to do Politics and got an offer for AAB. But im really worring i wont be able to get that. My Predictions are AAB but in my B subjecy im seriously struggling with work, at the moment im more of a C/D grade for it :frown:. If i get AAC or ABC would i still be able to get in? or are my chances completely out?

Ring the admissions and/or email the department.

I did both and got an answer by phone and an email back about two hours later.

I was told that for their sociology and criminology degree they're quite flexible but that only asks for BBB. It's unlikely you'd get in with two grades under the requirements, especially if the B or C is in politics.

AAC, with a really good mark in politics and you have a better chance. ABC and you're completely out, IMO.

Im doing Economics, Business Studies and Media Studies. Im hoping for an A* (Predicted A) in Economics because my AS results where all 85%+/-. An A in Business Studies and the subject im struggling with is Media Studies, reason being is the coursework, i write perfect essays but when it comes down to everything else i get low marks.

I hope RH can be my first choice it looks great.
Has anyone been accepted with grades 1/2 grades down from the offered conditional?

University is becoming increasingly competetive, and after recently being ranked 13th in the UK (88th in thw world) there is a lot of interest in royal holloway and obviously they will take the best students.

But as others have said, give them a ring.

Yea ill give them a ring monday. I was curious, would it be death to mention on my personal statement i am member of the Conservative party? I was the head campaigner for the Convervatives in Sixth form at the last general election and currently on my gap year been volunteering to help out my MP and others in assembly elections.

If I was doing the interview then dropping in your involvement with the Tories wouldnt do you any favours!

But in all fairness, applications dont depend on race, age, political views etc.

I think its down to how you phrase it, ensuring that you talk about the benefits of your work and what you have learnt - dont dwell on it too much.

A lot of people often get carried away talking about volunteering etc in their statement - dont forget that a lot of it should be about your passion for the subject and detail any specialist fields that you are particularly interested in etc.

I was told never to express political view in personal statements.

A lot of people I know here missed their offers but still got a place, but that doesn't mean that's going to happen much in the future. As others have mentioned, university is becoming ever more competitive, and it really depends on the course too, so though there's certainly a chance that if you didn't quite make the grades you'd still get a place, I wouldn't count on it. I'm sure with a lot of hard work and effort you can push those grades up and meet the offer. Good luck!

Yeh they're quite lenientm, AAC i don't think they'd have too many problems with, ABC in all likeliness would make you a borderline case.

You do realise you could get yourself into rather deep **** by publically accusing Rhul of admitting students on the basis of private donations, don't you?.. Assuming that you've also used your real name as your account name with your year of birth (as well as department and year group) and your profile picture (which could easily be matched up with the mathematics yearbook if your account name is false).

Edit: LOL, I notice mysteriously you have now removed your profile picture. That's probably a wise decision considering how easy it would be to drop Dr. Chugh (admissions tutor) at the management department an email informing them that a member of the mathematics department is accusing them publically of fraudulent admission practices.

It's ridiculous i think RHUL do take students after generous donations. But then students with certain backgrounds or after certain donations are favoured at other universities as well. But more then 40,000 usually.

I have a RHUL offer as well.

Prove it or lump it.
You want proof that parents donate hundreds of thousands to universities that influence what students get in? I can't PROVE it, but you are delusional to think if a parent donates £250,000 to the endowment that their child won't have a better c chance to get in.

Example:

Conditional offer AAA

you get AAB or A*BB. You might still scrape your way in. The world isn't fair, in this case it favors those with money, so my advice to you is become rich.

I have a funded RHUL offer for mathematics masters. How good is the course you know by any chance?

Great. Although, as a masters student, you'll obviously be doing more of the harder modules in your final two years.

If you're talking about reputation, then it's fantastic. I was chatting to a fourth year last week who's just gotten a job offer from Ernst and Young. Lots of students with 2:1's on the BSc programme got jobs from KPMG, PwC, Shell, BP... it's a fantastic opportunity and it's a great uni, too. 13th on the UK ranking (times) and (apparently) one of the top 20 unis that employers love.

Also, just to put this out there - I applied to RHUL and got an offer of ABC, didn't firm/insurance it, didn't get into my firm, didn't want to go to my insurance, phoned RHUL and begged them to take me back and they said yeah. So... lenient? Very.
