I love skins and I must say that series 1 and 2 with characters like tony, cassie, sid, chris and all the others were extremely interesting and unique. I also liked how Effy Stonem was portrayed in series 1 and even better in series 2 however when series 3 came out, I felt as if the characters individualities and expressions where a lot less. The characters in series 3 &4 seem a lot less interesting and topical. The plot of series 3&4 was not near interesting, nothing compared to 1&2. I hated the ending of series 4, and it became incredibly depressing to watch especially after Effy went under care and Freddies unnecessary death. Although characters like Cook brought a bit more life to the series and the lesbian plot, it still felt like it was missing something. There was no edge to it like in the previous series. I feel like skins needs more controversial characters like in series 1 we had cassie suffering from anorexia, and Jals pregnancy issue and Anwar and his “pick and choose” ways on his religion. We need characters like that, they should have Muslim girl portrayed or an overweight girl battling bullying and they need more outcasts, or nerds, Loners finding their inner selves. They need to show more of what goes on in society today, and off course add the entertainment. Now that series 5 is out, I watched it and honestly I thought Frankie was a very good character. Shes unique and special, however I’m a bit sceptical on Mini and her gang, it’s almost like mean girls all over again which I don’t particularly like. I guess we’l just have to wait and see for the rest. However series 1&2 will never be beaten and they are dearly missed! Can’t wait for the SKINS MOVIE though, I really hope they have all the characters from series 1 included as well...and I don;t like the fact that it’s based on the second generation. It should have been based on the first generation and how their lives have changed after college.
