HD/Content networks
Backstory:
Spoiler:ShowJust redownloaded Vuze after a 2 year absence and it seems the HD network has been castrated.
What happened to it?
It used to have interesting stuff like HD mainstream music videos, behind the scenes of said music videos, indie videos etc. Admittedly, some of the stuff was pay-for, but at least I knew it was all legal and the convenience was immense. Now it's ****.
The question: Are there any half decent HD/content networks around?
If possible, something with a client would be nice. A bit like a time unrestricted iplayer with music videos and stuff.
Alternatively, some good feeds would be appreciated.
Miro looks ok, if a bit sparse.
iTunes is pay-for-everything. Nice.
Illegal torrents are an exercise to see how incohesive they can be (unless someone knows something I don't?).
Veoh used to be ok (ditto vuze)...not any more.
Youtube is unacceptably low quality.
For those who still don't quite get what I want, below is an example:
Spoiler:ShowWhen I was idly browsing Vuze HD network, I stumbled across "Animusic - Resonant Chamber 720p" and downloaded it.
Note that this is freely available on their website (http://www.animusic.com/downloads/index.php).
How would I get that now? I would somehow have to discover it (probably in unacceptably low quality on youtube) go to their website, download it in my browser, move it where I want it, transcode it for my iphone with some other program, play it with some other program etc etc.
With Vuze, I found it under music videos and can then download, play, transcode and manage easily within the same program. -
Re: HD/Content networks
Hulu is good if you want to watch television shows. It's free to use however you get more videos and better access if you pay a monthly fee of 8 bucks.
You could use netflix, however you have to pay after the month of trial (only 7.99 to stream as much as you want though).
That's all I know of....what's wrong with torrents that you dont' like? -

Re: HD/Content networks
Maybe I was a little unclear. I don't want mainstream tv shows etc, I already have a source for these - I'm looking for music videos, behind the scenes stuff, user content and (most importantly) the ability to browse and thereby discover new things.
Basically I'm looking for youtube, but with higher quality videos on average (so I don't have to hunt for the high quality ones) and a more widely used format than flv. I can probably make a downloader/manager myself.
In fact, thinking about it, youtube isn't that bad. Just need a manager for it now.
No discovery is a sticking point - I have to know what I want. Dubious legality is irritating as well - some things are obviously illegal, but I like to know 100% what's legal as well.(Original post by Young Spade)

Additionally, I need to search for it, compare possible torrents, select one, download the torrent and open in, choose where to save it, wait for the download, open it with an external program. Such faff. This process must be repeated for every single video I want to download and watch.
As opposed to Vuze where I used to be able to search, press play and it would deal with with the rest of the crap in the background.
That was my point.(Original post by ch0llima)
You obviously don't know where to look.
A reasonable suggestion.(Original post by maturestudy)
Find a good scene ripper / group that is into the stuff you like.

Re: HD/Content networksOh ok didn't know that, sorry :/(Original post by Gofre)
Hulu and Netflix are still US only services.
Oh and after reading your above comment, yea I completely understand; I wish there was a site that aggregated all of the top sites around the web when searched with a specific genre.
I would love to know various alternatives to the sites I go to every day you know? There has to be something like this somewhere.Last edited by Young Spade; 14-04-2011 at 22:41.
