First year insight days (this one is with DLA Piper)
Hi How important are some of the first year 'insight' or 'workshop' days that law firms run? One of my friends has a TC secured with Linklaters and he said the key to getting in was going on Linklaters' pathfinders event in first year, then doing a VS with them in second year followed by an offer of a TC.

I applied for an 'insight' day for people who have completed their first year with DLA Piper. The application merely for the insight day was almost the same as if I were applying for a training contract. It was very involved and detailed.

Anyway, I got a place, thank fully! Will this help me to get a vacation scheme with them or training contract next year?

Do firms like students to follow a certain route e.g. insight day -> vacation scheme -> training contract?

It just seems I had to put a lot of effort into this application for the insight day, I hope it will be worth it next year

No, I got a magic circle training contract without having done a VS with the firm, and know others who did the same. You need a City VS normally however.

^^^ but this is only so you can give a credible reason why you want to do city law in your interview.
