Vac Scheme Auction

Clearly a PR Fail, but a lot of the comments seem to be getting ahead of themselves, almost making out it's a TC or a job offer, rather than just work experience. -

Re: Vac Scheme Auction
The partner responsible is an extremely nice guy and not from an overly privileged background himself. I really have a problem with auctioning work experience (as well as work experience given on the basis of contacts), but will chalk this down to an unfortunate error of judgment.

Re: Vac Scheme AuctionTrue, but are they bigging up their own Vac schemes, or is it the general over-emphasis on WEx?(Original post by nulli tertius)
The firms started making a rod for their own backs, when they started placing too much emphasis on a week making coffee.
Everytime there's a thread on TSR about "not getting TCs", the first thing that gets mentioned (after academics) is the vac schemes and WEx. So someone somewhere is making these things out to be a big deal. -
Re: Vac Scheme AuctionI agree that vac schemes and other legal work experience are a big deal but it is the legal profession that has made them so. If one looks at it rationally why is a week following a lawyer around of such importance in deciding whether someone should get a traineeship?(Original post by Clip)
True, but are they bigging up their own Vac schemes, or is it the general over-emphasis on WEx?

Having then made it important, firms are being criticised for not handing out these "opportunities" fairly.
