So, first years, when are you leaving?
Just thought I would ask when other freshers are buggering off home this term.
Personally I'm leaving the day my exams finish, the 18th, going home for a week then coming back up for a few days and extrav then back home again.
So, how soon after your exams are you all leaving? -
Re: So, first years, when are you leaving?Woodsball or proper tourney paintball? This kind of thing.(Original post by longdeath)
Im leaving 9 days after my last exam. partly because of work, but also got a paintball toruny to go to. and it also means a week of heavy drinking with the rest of my flat
If is the proper tourney paintball is it with the Uni club or not? I didn't think the Uni club had enough people who took it seriously to put a tourney team together.
Sorry for all the questions, just that I used to play proper tourney paintball and would love to get into it again. -
Re: So, first years, when are you leaving?that looks SOOOOOO fun! i played paintball for my birthday a couple of years back. while the actual paintball side was okay. there was just like 2 of my friends. one got put on the other team and there was like lots of people. some semi pro. so it was pretty **** in that respect. id love to play like that. 7v7 in a even playing field. either in woods or with those blow up things.(Original post by mackemforever)

Re: So, first years, when are you leaving?Anybody that described themselves as "semi-pro" is simply trying to make themselves look cool to everybody else there that day. If at a regular punter site anybody says they are "semi-pro" then what they actually are is just somebody who bought their own kit.(Original post by J1mjam)

There are only 3 or 4 teams in the UK where their players make enough throughout the year to cover their costs from the year.
If you get into proper tournament paintball hoping to make money then you're a total retard! -

It can also be a horribly depressing sport at times. A standard tournament is simply a series of matches (usually somewhere between 6 and 9 depending on how many teams there are), and a single match is up to 10 minutes long, playing till one team is eliminated. If you get hit you're out of that match. Usual entry fee for a tournament worked out to about £70 per person, then you've got to pay for your paint on top of that.
One of the last tournaments I played before I quit and sold my kit was a 7 match tourney. I was always a front man, which meant that I had to push as far up the field as possible, and off the break (the start where you see all the players move away from their starting position) I got shot in 5 games, so was out within about 10 seconds, and in the other 2 I was shot within the first minute. In total from the day I fired less than 300 shots and was in play for less than 3 minutes yet the day still cost me the best part of £90.
Luckily there is a new format gaining popularity which gives you far greater value for money. It is called Formula 5 and it uses the same kind of fields as in the video I linked to, 5 men on the field from each team, but you have a staging area right at the back of the field and you have between 7 and 10 players. The way you win a game is not by eliminating the other team, there is a button in the middle of the field, you hit that and you get points, you keep getting points till the other team hits the button. If you're hit you return to the staging area and another player enters the field. This means that you get plenty of playing time so there is no risk of only getting a few minutes on the field during the day. -
Re: So, first years, when are you leaving?that sounds like a great idea. would definately make it better in my view. thats one of the most off putting things. the cost. and for not an awful lot really. im guessing to buy your own kit, its pretty damn expensive too? also the guys at my birthday, not sure what they were. obv not pro, as you cant make enough money, but they were in proper teams with their own kit etc. even so, its massively one sided when you have me (like 16 at the time) versus 20/30 year olds who play all the time. hmmmf(Original post by mackemforever)
Forgot to put something in my last post.
