Financial blogs & RSS feeds, a free resource all S&T interns should be using
It's been a while since I've checked this site, and I see the value-added/signal-to-noise continues to trend towards zero, drowning in a cesspit of inane topics ("what should I wear to an interview", "how many hours does an M&A mule work", "how much $$$ can I make", "which university is better?").
Time to make a positive contribution.
Financial blogs have grown massively in the past few years, and have proven to be an excellent resource for up-to-date market events and topics of discussion. The best thing about it? It's free, and often written by informed commentators much smarter than your average Bloomberg reporter monkey.
Tapping these resources is very simple to do. You can just bookmark in a browser, but a much more efficient way would be to use MS Outlook's in-built RSS Reader (or download one of many RSS-reader add-ons for various internet browsers) to receive all new feeds into one place. Create a text file like the one below (good examples to get you started) and save as a .opml file. Go into Outlook RSS Feeds, right-click and import the opml file.
And yes, wear a ****ing tie to an interview.

Re: Financial blogs & RSS feeds, a free resource all S&T interns should be usingIf you have a smartphone search for any rss reader app. I can't be very detailed here since I don't know what phone you are using. But the main gist of it would be to follow any instructions on the app/website of the app. Then at some point you would need to enter the url's for your RSS feeds, and those would be the url's in the first post, http://fistfulofeuros.net/category/afoe/feed/ , for example.(Original post by Maggieffc)
Could be handy if I can figure out how do use it on my phone.
Sorry I can't be too specific on what to do! -

Re: Financial blogs & RSS feeds, a free resource all S&T interns should be usingCool - I use greader on my Galaxy S. You can set up the RSS feeds using google reader and your google account, http://www.google.com/reader, then you just sync greader on your phone with your account (saves you setting it up on the phone). greader gives you alerts too, but with a lot of feeds the alerts can be quite frequent!(Original post by Maggieffc)

the one that comes to mind is macro man (www.macro-man.blogspot.com)...i can't think of anything better (buttonwood from the economist is okay-ish) but maybe subscribing to WSJ's economics page. another good idea is to open an account with Oanda as you get access to a minor amount of research (maybe UBS so its probablly worthless) and, more importantly, some pretty good news feeds. I remember 4Cast being pretty good. i would suggest though that fx often isn't easy and takes a long time (1y+) to get your bearings.

Dealbreaker is, imo, the best one out there. Some other good ones are Deal Book and, if your into equities, Empirical Finance llc, Bronte Capital, Citron Research, Distressed Debt Investing, Barel Karsan and Frankly Speaking. And i'll shamelessly promote my own: Valuhunteruk
