Mature student applying for Pre-Vet year - please help!
    Hello all,

I am new here and have a question I hope some mature students or any other students for that matter know the answer to!

I am a mature student in terms of university age (22) and left my full time job last year to re-attend an agricultural college. I am studying an Extended Diploma in Animal Management, and as long as I achieve 3 Distinctions I am eligible to apply for the Gateway/Preliminary vet med years at London, Bristol and Nottingham. HOWEVER, my GCSE's are not of the usual standard as required by all the vet schools. Are GCSE's relevant to mature students or is it only for younger candidates who have gone from school to college and straight to uni?

I should point out that I also have a decent amount of work experience (work part time in a small animal veterinary surgery, volunteer weekly at an animal rescue home, have undergone some work experience on a farm and at college have had exotic and farm experience.)

Any advice is appreciated - thank you in advance.

This sounds like something you'd really be better off contacting the uni's directly about, rather than getting wrong information off here. Theyre usually really helpful :-) goodluck! Oh and you're not mature, haha mature starts at 25 :-) win!

    Fair do's - thank you!

Do you know what though, Uni's are now saying that anything over 21 is classed as a mature student these days! Ageist I call it
