is university as cliquey as secondary school?
I remember in secondary school that there were many "social" groups, if you like, which dictated who liked who and whatnot. It wasn't as ripe in your year because we were a lot more together for some reason but I had a few friends from other years and remember them talking about all the bitchyness that took place.
So, is university any different in terms of certain groups "ruling the roost" or certain groups being very cliquey? -

Yes there are cliques (i.e. groups of friends) that don't tend to mix. There isn't a popular/cool group that everyone wants to be in and the 'nerd' group that gets bullied though.
There is plenty of bitchiness and tonnes of drama to go around though (I encountered more at my first year of uni then I ever had at my secondary school) - and also one or two people with a lot of insecurities/mental problems. People at uni are still human after all.
I haven't encountered any bullying, just in-group bitching between girls.Last edited by Tefhel; 12-07-2011 at 19:29. -

There's far more people and the fact that you can't possibly know everyone sort of means there's not any real 'ruling group'. Plus you get to know so many different people.
However, I'd say that sometimes people get the impression that each subject has its own little cliques. Personally, it's never been a problem. There is still bitching and stuff but you get that everywhere. The atmosphere's a lot more relaxed than secondary school though, at least where I am.
