How normal/frequent is it for flats to work out an actual cleaning rota, or group meals or clubbing together to buy household stuff that it's pointless to have 4/5 individual supplies of? Or is halls more of an anti-social every man for himself situation?

It really depends on who you are with.
In halls we had "clear up after yourself" thing going, with everyone taking it in turns to empty the bin. The 3 of us that got on took it in turns to cook for each other for a while (not every day), but with all being on different courses and finishing at different times it became difficult.
Us 3 did all go shopping together once a week though, etc.

In our house (since 2nd year), we've had a cleaning rota. It seems to make much more sense when there's a whole house to look after. Everyone is still expected to clean up their mess... We just divide the general things like hoovering, cleaning the bathroom and taking the bins out.

But it depends who you are with. People who are lazy won't want to, and will probably just make mess. But those who aren't usually have no problem with doing their share.

I cried with laughter when reading that. It's something me and my friends would do.

I remember when somebody was packing with their parents (leaving halls) and he was unaware that hardcore vid was playing whilst his window was open

The lift was funny too, the original idea was to set his bed up outside on the grass but it was too cold.

I might have to steal the first idea off you. I sincerely hope that I get flatmates like you at uni. It'd be a scream!

because most people leave their doors unlocked, my naive flatmate often had porn playing at full blast with his windows open whilst he was in the kitchen cooking/watching tv :awesome:

Music is just too mainstream nowadays
nazi cleaning staff. didn't hoover my room from february to june and charged me £50 for 'extra' cleaning.

Also, the people in my flat were not up for going out/banter at all. Made it boring

As long as you get people who are genuine, willing to have a laugh and go out occasionally I guarantee you'll have a laugh.

I still can't believe how much **** got broken in my flat, I don't advise playing ball games either.. the amount of times the light fitting came down :colonhash:

We pulled loads of pranks on each other (due to the doors always being unlocked), the thing is too.. if somebody doesn't lock their computer you can look the door from the inside, i.e. frape people for as long as you want.

I remember my flatmate who never leaves his door open sprinted by my room, I saw my opportunity and locked myself in his room, his profile pic became some wrinkly American perv fondling an Asian guy (probably early 20s)... he got a phone call from his mother and others.

someone left loads of curly pubes in the shower and someone else threw up loads of brown stuff up on the floor and the cleaners wouldnt clean it and noone would own up to it, and so it was left in there for days. We also had a food thief in the last term. And we shared our pans and cutlery but we lived with this one girl who didnt talk to us but she used use all our pans and burn them and take all our plates into her room and just leave them in there until we ran out of plates.

Yeah, I hope I don't end up with a load of people I hate!

I'd say my sense of humour is (very) immature, so in an ideal world I'd be living with people who like playing pranks on each other.
If anyone touches my stash of Pot Noodles, I will do so much damage to their persons with my fork.
I'm going to have so much fun
Although I'll smash some heads if people take my stuff and leave it in their room -.-

I'm quite immature, 5 of us out of 6 were immature. It's harsh to say but the 1 flatmate who wasn't never came out with us, never bothered with us so we just left him on his own, he was a total recluse.

My advice is just get as pissed up as possible during Fresher's week, it leads to banter.
forks go missing ¬_¬

A guy in the next room who thought it was acceptable to come home drunk at 3am, put his music on full blast* and sing out of tune at the top of his voice. I woke up and was completely livid; I nearly banged his door down and told him, quite seriously, that I'd break his arms if he didn't turn that off. I could honestly have killed that guy if he'd have decided to push my buttons some more and I think he knew it - he never looked me in the eye or spoke another word to me again. He woke everyone else (five other people) in the flat up too, utter prick.

*really terrible Indie music at that

I don't why you're getting neggged, I'd enter rage mode too if this happened.

I've had flat mates who have left there stuff for weeks (because they've gone home for whatever reason) and then came back and made speeches about how we should all be cleaning more often lol. The worst part is that I live with friends who I like so I usually refrain from saying anything

You FilthyYouth! :colone:
Reading all this makes me want halls even more! Seems like great fun :party2:

My boyfriend had to live with an alcoholic turned heroin addict for the entire year who began to steal stuff to fund his habit and tried to break into my boyfriend's room whilst he was in the shower to try and get his hands on me.

Fun times indeed.
