Going on the pill??
Hi,
I'm going to the doctors tomorrow and at the same time was going to ask them about going on the pill to delay my period because Im going on a camping expedition for a couple of weeks... So thats my main reason, but at the same time I would be considering going on the pill anyway as a contraceptive, so was wondering how it works and whether getting the pill for a few months to delay my period would mean id need to go back to the gp again when i decide I want it as contraception? Or would it be a different pill, and do you have to keep going back to get prescriptions?
Thank you

Re: Going on the pill??
If you want to purely delay your period there is a pill that you can take, you take it once a day and when you stop you'll come on your period. However, if you want it for contraception as well you may as well just go on the normal pill. I'm on it now, and the doctor gave me 6 months worth of it, so no you don't really have to go back for prescriptions a lot.
If you want to delay your period on the normal pill just keep taking it until after your camping trip, then have a break from it, then if you still wanna use it for contraception go back on it. -
Re: Going on the pill??The normal contraceptive pill can be used to skip periods but if you go to the doctors and say you just want to delay one period then there is also another pill,(Original post by Anonymous)
Okay, thanks
the thing was I guess I wanted to get away with not asking for it for contraception but then going back on it if i wanted, but if its a different pill then I guess I'll have to?
norethisterone, that is likely to be prescribed (it is actually a mini pill - progesterone only, but I've never heard of it being prescribed as a normal once-a-day pill). You need to take it 3 times a day starting just before your period is due on, then stop taking it once you want to have your period. Personally that seems like too much hassle to me, especially on a camping trip! If you're thinking about going on the contraceptive pill anyway you may as well start of with it and see how it goes. They'll give you 3 months supply to begin with, then if you decide it's not for you then just don't go back for the next prescription. If you want to stay on it, then just go back to see your nurse and after that you'll get prescriptions for 6 months at a time. -
Re: Going on the pill??Everything can be confidential at the doctors/clinic if you want it to be, no one has to find out about it if you don't want them to.(Original post by Anonymous)

Re: Going on the pill??Why do they need to know? Or you can just say you want to stay on the pill so you always have more control over your periods. Or just tell them to piss off, it's none of their business IMO(Original post by Anonymous)
Thanks
the only thing is, i guess my parents would know cos they'll ask why ive been given that and not the other pill which you just take for that month.. or would they maybe prescribe either?
