Welcome to Brunel University: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from whether the statue of Isambard Brunel looks like he's about to drop his trousers, and what it is like to live in North West London.

How easy and cheap and easy is it to get from Uxbridge to the City?
Hey, I'm starting Brunel in September and I'm really excited about living in London. One thing worries me though, and that's that I won't be able to get the best out of living in London due to the distance between Uxbridge and Central London. I was just wondering, could any current students give me info on:

How cheap the travel is into London

How regular tubes/buses are, and what time they stop running

Is the distance ever an issue?

How easy is it to travel alone on the tube from Uxbridge to Central London?

Will I need an Oyster Card?

    Thank you

Uxbridge tube station on London metropolitan line to central London maybe or you can switch over to another line later............... there's also piccadily but that takes a longer route to central London. I would say the journeys about an hour long.

I think you would definitely need an oyster card because London fares keep rising and its still expensive even after your student discount.

You can get into London on the Met line from Uxbridge in about 40 minutes to an hour. On the Piccadilly it takes longer. Oyster Cards make it cheaper.

Travel in to London, it's not bad, a few quid there and a few quid back.
The last train is about 12. There's a night bus from Oxford Street that goes to a few minutes walk from Brunel.

On the night bus it is a litte, but if your drunk and with friends it'll pass faster.

It is easy to travel alone on the tube from Uxbridge to central London, just one train from Uxbridge to Baker Street and you can catch a few other lines from there, easy to get where you want.

You should apply for a student Oyster Card ASAP a normal bus journey will be £2.30 or so but on an Oyster it's £1.30 (Or so by about 10pence). The Oyster has a limit of an equivalent day pass, so it's always best to just use an Oyster card.

    Hope this helped

Use the Journey planner on the right hand side of the page.

    But from my own knowledge
Uxbridge station ( On Metropolitan line)
-30 minutes or so-Get off at Finchely Road* (Transfer to Jubilee line)
--less than 5 mins- Get off at St Johns Wood

*Could also swap to Jubilee at Wembley if you want to walk outside and see the stadium whilst your passing, something to do once.

How cheap the travel is into London -- get an student oyster card trust me, and what me and my friends do is get a child travel card zone 1-6 which be used all day everywhere ders a handy tip...otherwise it is not cheap if you plan on going down regularly.

How regular tubes/buses are, and what time they stop running -- loads of buses go to uxbridge and 3 buses to brunel uni like next to campus while another 3 go near by Kingston lane...with destinations such as white city, Ealing, Heathrow airport, west drayton. and at nite N207 which goes from oxford circus str8 to Uxbridge really good after a nite out which most student take after going to a club in central.

Is the distance ever an issue? always a issue, but to fair i lived on campus last year and would have rather have spent my time on campus and near by uxbridge, with obviously the occasional nite/day trip around the rest of the city.

How easy is it to travel alone on the tube from Uxbridge to Central London? -- very easy met line gets you straight der, majority of my flat had this worry as they weren't from London and just get a tube map and trust me u'll have no problem after the first few trips =]

Will I need an Oyster Card? yes student one

Hope it helps, and also im jealous coz ur a fresher =D
