Re: Courses and Financial Support Q&A with Aberystwyth Uni
The Student Experience is something that we pride ourselves on. Accommodation, is of course, an important element to the Student Experience and Aberystwyth has a lot to offer the students. Despite the current discussion surrounding bunk rooms, the University is honoring their guarantee to house first year students and it is important to look at the University in terms of its course provision, facilities, location and costs as well as the range of accommodation available.
This week we are looking specifically at the range of courses and scholarships which are available to students and so we will be responding on a daily basis to specific questions surrounding our provision.
A full press release on the reasons and benefits for implementing bunk rooms in September 2011 can be seen here: http://bit.ly/oPqOix
Here are the key facts.
This year Aberystwyth University has experienced a record number of student applications. This, together with an above average number of students achieving their grades has resulted in an exceptional year for student recruitment.
As a result, accommodation in the town and within University residences is at a premium. The University is confident however that it will be able to meet its housing guarantee for first year students through the provision of a series of innovative and flexible measures.
In addition to a new hall of residence which will be complete by the start of term, the University is introducing a number of bunk rooms. These rooms will have two single beds or a bunk bed in each room and provide a range of benefits to its occupants.
Professor April McMahon, Vice-Chancellor of Aberystwyth University said: “Bunk rooms have proved a popular solution at other universities and allow us to provide accommodation to more of our returning students in this exceptional year.
“The room set up ensures that first year students who are more often than not leaving home for the first time are able to quickly make friends with other students in a similar situation. It also recognises the growing pressures on the finances of students and provides an affordable option against a backdrop of increasing costs.”
In addition to investing in bunk beds, the University will also be investing in considerable resources to ensure that students continue to enjoy one of the best student experiences in the UK.
The University is working with Aberystwyth University Guild of Students to ensure the success of the bunk rooms. Ben Meakin, Guild President said: “Although bunks are not ideal, at least they will provide a bed for students. We are working to ensure that any student in a bunk room will receive the fantastic experience that Aberystwyth is renowned for”.
The introduction of bunk rooms also ensures that the University is able to support returning students who are yet to secure accommodation in the private sector. Students who have applied for a room within University residences will receive offers of accommodation during the next week. -
Re: Courses and Financial Support Q&A with Aberystwyth Uni
I'm currently studying an "Access To History & English" certified by Queen's University Belfast.
I would be interested in the possibility of studying "International Politics" at Aberystwyth. I'm curious if Aberystwyth would consider this qualification acceptable during the application process? -

@Facade123
Aberystwyth's entry requirements are inclusive and flexible. In our offer to you, we aim to recognise, wherever possible, the qualifications you have studied or are studying.
Our offers will reflect both your particular circumstances and the subject requirements of your chosen course(s).
Several departments may reduce your offer after a successful Visiting Day interview.
The Department of International Politics is the oldest of its kind in the world. It was founded in 1919 (in the immediate aftermath of World War I) in an attempt to help humanity better understand the reasons for war, conflict and suffering. The Department continues to be centrally concerned with the major questions in global politics: power, conflict, ethics, security and political participation. Widely recognized as the home of the discipline, the Department has evolved into the best centre for the study of international politics in the United Kingdom and its staff are committed to excellence in teaching and research to offer an outstanding and dynamic learning environment.
If you have any questions about the type of modules you could study, or have any specific areas of interest, we will happily talk you through those in connection to the International Politics courses at Aberystwyth.
