    am i right in thinking that
    if an item is sent by royal mail tracked that it needs to be signed for?

    maybe so but this forum is here to ask about every day issues

    btw i tried looking on the royal mail site and i couldnt find the answer, maybe im blind

    What do you mean royal mail tracked? What is that, first class recorded?

    well on the sorry we missed you card it says

    royal mail tracked (its under special delivery on the red card)

    I don't think so, no. Tracked mail normally means that they keep a record of where it is at any one time (so if it's being sorted, you can use the Royal Mail post tracker on their website to check whether it's been processed and sent out yet or not).

    No, it doesn't. It can be tracked and signed for, but it should say on the card if you have to sign for it.

    I've had a load of parcels recently that have been tracked and only two of them were also to sign for, one of which I missed and got left a card, and it had both 'royal mail tracked' and 'signed for' ticked on it.

    Yeah.

    Tracked would normally be for...important-ish things, e.g. I used it when sending a formal complaint letter so that there'd be evidence that it was sent and they did receive it.

    Special delivery is valuable stuff, normally, and standard is just normal things like cards.
