Glasgow Caledonian, Northumbria or Westminster for Journalism?
I really want to study journalism at university, but I'm not sure where I'd like to study first. I love Glasgow, I've got relatives over there and visit all of the time so I know the place relatively well. Newcastle seems like a fun and great place to study. London would be pretty amazing, since its the media capital of the UK and it's got better job opportunities as well and I've been to London before and it lived up to my expectations.

If you could give me advice on where's the best place to study, that would be great. Thanks in advance

It would indeed be good to study journalism in London. But Westminster University's journalism courses are NOT in London. They are in Harrow, which does not have a postcode. It is very difficult to get to London from Harrow and in practice if you sign up with Westminster you will end up stuck in Harrow and you may as well be in Scunthorpe or Luton.

The University of Westminster HQ is based in central London and some of its campuses are also in London (and have London postcodes), which is how it make these very misleading claims. The related claim that the Harrow campus is twenty minutes from "central London" is just a joke. To get from Harrow to any of the landmarks featured in its endless and expensve online marketing and adverts (all have now been reported to the Advertising Standards Authority which recently took responsibility for advertising on the web).

Don't waste your student freedom years stuck in Harrow - which is a total dump (you could be in any boring, crappy suburb). It has a slightly posh ring to its name because of Harrow School, which is nowhere near the Harrow Campus - which is a grim place. Another thing is that the Harrow campus was badly damaged by a fire a couple of years ago. They have plans to demolish it and rebuild it and have already published a plan for a bright new future. But you won't be part of that future - you will be living on a building site and your fees will be paying for their attempt to build something decent on the site.

If you want to study journalism or media in London there are lots of options where you can genuinely get the buzz of the city. They range from University of East London (in Docklands near the News International - Sun, Times, etc - complex in Wapping) and London Metropolitan, which is in fairly funky/trendy Islington, much much closer to the BBC. These two unis are a bit 'last resort' and will take people with very low grades, but if you just want the qualification and are not too bothered about standards and want to be in London, they are a much better choice than Westminster. Then there is City University and Brunel University - they are old style 'Red Brick' universities with very high entry grades. City is in Islington, very close to seveal newspapers including The Guardian and just infinately closer toi the BBC and Wapping than Harrow (so-called Westminster), Brunel is a bit further out, but even that is closer to central London and easier to get to (direct on the Piccadilly line) and Brunel is very close to Sky TV. There are others that are more middling in their academic standards - at least five or six places I think which are closer to both 'the heart of London' and the 'media industry' location wise than Westminster. Westminster is the worst of both worlds - low and falling standards - and a location that is nowhere near central London. Transport is hopeless so you will be stuck. Even with a car its two hours in traffic then maybe £20 to park for an hour. If you miss the night bus, you have to shell out for a taxi - that is £70 and a nervous couple of hours with a minicab driver, since black cabs will just laugh if you ask them to go that far out of London. You have been warned!
I appreciate your views on Westminster but how can you say that Westminster is worse off than London Met? Anyone with a brain cell knows to steer well clear of London Met.

Glasgow is a great city for students. Glasgow caledonians campus is right in the city centre (next to buchanan bus station and buchanan galleries) and basically on the same block as strathclyde university and city of glasgow college with stow college just up the road (glasgow uni is in the west end of the city). So in that sense you will be surrounded by students and plenty of places for students to congregate. Also caly, strathy and city of glasgow students tend to integrate together quite well. As for the actual university, caly is a fairly new uni compared to strathclyde and glasgow so in that sense it doesn't have as good a reputation, but don't let that put you off, the teaching standard is fairly good (gordon brown used to teach there) and the actual university is practically brand new so the facilities are excellent.

    ?

Harrow campus, on Northwick Park tube station on the Met Line is 20 minutes (4 stops) away from Baker Street - the Marleybone campus.

Westminster isn't great, but you have a clear bias in your posts.

    I'd say Glasgow or Northumbria.

Anyway, I'd just like to add, that you'd be better doing English/History or something along those lines, not a straight up journalism degree
