What bank account should i open?

    What bank account should i open?
    hi,

    i am 15 almost 16 in half a year and i was just wondering what is the best savings account that i should get. i heard about the chidrens isas and i think that they are 3% interest. but what do you reccomend? i do realise that i will most likely have to change my account when i'm 16.

    When I got to choose which bank account I wanted I picked HSBC because of their name - didnt care about isa/interest rates

    There are a few. Santander hsbc lloysd and amex.
    However i know santander and lloyds and the best in my oppinion as santander offer a high intrest and lloyds get you discount on your driving lessons.
    But its entirly up to you.

    Its okay if you need anymore help then inbox me. However i would wait until after christmas as the intrest rate is meant to go up. Also DO NOT get a account just because of the name you need to look at the intrest rate and also perks along with how much you can put in until the intrest goes down.

    To be honest the difference between the interest levels is quite small and with the amounts young people (15/16 year olds) have, it wont make much of a difference.

    Well i know santander can go up to 6% and everyother one is around 3/4%

    Exactly, but if some one is depositing £1000 (a good figure to base this on), the 2% gap that you have just created between the banks is not worth a lot (not even enough to potentialy cover the petrol money between 2 different banks).

    Yep that is true and also you can not have funds over £500.00 in your account so i would suggest going for lloyds as they offer cheapre driving lessons?

    Barclays. Natwest and Santander have awful customer service. Whenever something went wrong with my Natwest acc it took ages to fix.

    Or whatever acc has the best freebies.

    My santander customer service was pretty good i have used them a few times for lost cards stolen cards ect

    Natwest have been ok with me. I've had my main account open since I was in year 6 .

    Try Money Saving Expert, Money Saving Warehouse and Money Supermarket. Lots of info for your perusal.
