    History at Trinity Dublin :L?
    I'm reading the final 2011 admission requirements for History single honours (which I'm assuming applies to me sending my application now for entry in 2012, as it appears recent on the websites bulletin board) --> http://www.tcd.ie/Admissions/undergr...try_Points.pdf

    It saying that for History i need a minimum of 445 points, while saying these are requirements for leaving certifcate applicants at top so I try and find the points page for a-level people.

    I then find a page at the end which deals with "proportionality" and according to this as an a-level student I will need A*A*A (a) MINIMUM, thats 500 points! Unlucky for me this "proportionality" only applies to History and a few other courses,

    I mean I could deal with 445 quite easily (I'm aiming for at least AAA in my A2s next year, having a B at AS, which would be 465 points)

    I do think I could perhaps pop out 1 A* in Biology with hard work but altogether that would only give me 485!

    I'm also applying for UCD for single honours historys which had an average applicant score of 455 last year (only takes 12 people tho lol)

    Maybe I'm being a noob and Trinity havent released their 2012 applicants requirements yet???

    The 2012 applicants points requirements aren't discovered until the universities have actually given out their offers. Yes, it's a shame, but there are several rounds, which means that even if you don't get the place in the first round, you may in the second or third. See the CAO website for further details on this.

    The points system is very much skewed in favour of R.O.I. students, but you should remember that Trinity is the most prestigious university, and UCD is one of the best universities in Ireland, so the points are going to be comparatively high anyway.

    You will definitely have a better chance applying for the single honours - TSM subjects at Trinity tend to have considerably higher points.

    I wish you the best of luck anyway, fart around on the websites;

    - and I wish you the best of luck (and will possibly encounter you next year).

    Cheers for your help. Yeh I had a vague feeling about the "round system" and all that and yes its definitely prejudiced against us northern students.

    Ah well I'll give it a go and at least I have a good chance of an offer from UCD!

    And if all else fails I have an offer from Queens Belfast for BBB lol...

    Not a bother. I'd advise you to apply sooner rather than later on the CAO however, otherwise you'll have to pay an extra tenner. It's not nearly as detailed as the UCAS form - no PS, no interviews etc. as I'm sure you already know.

    Good luck

    History admissions in Trinity seem a bit... arbitrary for UK students. Last year my History Political Science course was 515 whereas one UK student got in on 480ish points. No idea how that worked...
