Beginning new course without finished the previous one
Hey,
I've done 2 years in a University, then took a year off. Now I'm going to apply for an academic year of 2012/2013, starting for year 1. Am I going to get the loan for all those three years, when I haven't finished the first two, or is there going to be problems with this issue?
Thanks -
Re: Beginning new course without finished the previous oneIs that a standard practice of SLC to give 1 year minus years had?(Original post by roubiliac)
The formula is length of course plus 1 year minus years already had
so for you that is
3 + 1 - 2 = 2
You will get years 2 and 3 funded but will need to fund year 1 yourself. -

Okay, thank you.
Do you people know if I'm entitled to a maintenance grant then? I haven't been receiving it when I was studying before, because I'm not UK citizen and haven't lived here for 3 years, but when I start next year, I'll be 3 years which should make me eligible for a maintenance grant, if I'm right. -
Re: Beginning new course without finished the previous oneI'm not sure if I didn't understand you, or you didn't understand me.(Original post by Shani)
No, you can't claim for the 3 year residency once your course has started - you needed to be in the UK for 3 years before the start of the course, not the start of a new year.
The course would start October 2012, and my 3 year residency would come on August 2012. So would it be possible to claim the maintenance grant this way? -
Re: Beginning new course without finished the previous one
You would not meet the 3 year residency requirement because of:
"the main purpose for your residence in the UK and islands must not have been to receive full-time education during any part of that three-year period."

So I should NOT have studied during those 3 years? Does it account for something that I worked during those 3 years?
