Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the year
Basically, I've been given the opportunity to resit the year at One of the best Grammar schools in the country, and I've been given the chance to study Economics, which I wasn't given the option of doing at my current school.
Currently, I do Maths, Further Maths, Geography and Psychology. I extremely dislike Psychology and will be dropping it next week (I chose Geography and Psychology as I had no other option), and I'm not too fond of Geography either but, I'm not too bad at it. I'm expecting to get BB in Maths and Further Maths at least this year, and a B/C in Geography this year also.
Next year, I'm certainly doing Maths, Further Maths and Economics AS but, I'm not exactly sure what to take as my 4th choice. I'm unable to do all of the Sciences due to my Science GCSE courseworks being screwed up, and ending up with a C overall. I may be able to do Physics due to my mathematical skills but, I don't know. I'm resitting Maths and Further Maths because at my new school, they do a different exam board and they also do Maths AS+A2 in One year.
I'm just wanting to know what would be a 'good' AS to do alongside these Two. -
Re: Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the yearI'm really AWFUL at English though, I probably should have mentioned that. I'm not really sure what Sociology is exactly. What does the AS course contain?(Original post by Azland)
English Lang/Lit, Sociology -
Re: Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the yearThat's what they have down at the moment as my 4th choice, I just don't know if I should do a subject again that I'm never going to improve my grade in (If I get a B in summer, there's no way I'll get an A if I resit it)(Original post by ChrisA7x)
Don't do sociology.. Seriously try and get on to the physics course, it would compliment your other choices so well! If not, and you don't like english/essay subjects, maybe try geography again, and drop it after AS -

Re: Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the yearBecause, I'll only be getting a B at a push. Even re-doing the course, I just believe that even with extensive revision, I'll struggle for an A.(Original post by ChrisA7x)
why?
I expect to get an A/A* in Maths when resitting it though. -
Re: Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the year
Assuming your 4th AS is not going to be continued into A2. Sociology is the study of the society as a whole..it works quite well with economics in that regard. I can suggest other AS subjects but you will have to continue them into A2 for it to be of any help. As for English seriously, just scrap a B in english language and dont continue it into A2..universities wont look into it.
CIE's exact definition of sociology :
In a rapidly changing world, A and AS Level Sociology offers students the opportunity not only to explore the processes that are shaping current trends, but also to develop an understanding of the complexity and diversity of human societies and their continuities with the past. The study of sociology stimulates awareness of contemporary social, cultural and political issues, and focuses on the importance of examining these issues in a rigorous, reasoned and analytical way.
See if it appeals to you.Last edited by Azland; 03-03-2012 at 23:36. -
Re: Help with AS choices for next year - Resitting the yearWell, I'll already have a B at AS in Geog (With Maths, FM and Economics for A2). Sociology does sound really good though, that or Politics.(Original post by Azland)
