A Career In Accountancy

Hi,

A career in accountancy interests me, but I want to know if there is a way to know if it fits for me? I'm at a stage in my life where I can't realistically take a chance, I need to know this avenue is right for me rather than getting on the course and discovering I don't like it. Unfortunately I am not in a position to undertake unpaid work experience either which could be a problem. Are there any books or websites I could use to find out more?

Hi,

Well the biggest fallacy believed by the general public about A&F that it involves loads of maths and you have to do loads of it, like courses such as mechanical engineering, physics etc etc. Over the course of the 3 years you'll do as much maths equivalent to about 1 A-level maths module. If being able to enjoy your course is a high priority then there won't really be a high chance you'll enjoy it tbh. A&F is all about number crunching, F loads of it. Whereas courses like Computing can be enjoyable since you get to learn programming and develop apps yourself, or Expressive Arts where you'll get to perform and what not.

Accounting can generally be split into 2 big areas, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting, here are a couple of really good books which if you wanna get a taste of Accountancy.

Financial Accounting:
