Biomedicine at UEA
Hi,
I know these questions are quite subjective but...
Has anyone had any experience of Biomedicine at University of East Anglia know anything about the quality of teaching there for that course.
I want to put it as 1st choice for 2012 entry as it is in a nice area, the uni has good reviews and it is actually a decent uni.
Also comment on my other choices as every little helps
1. UEA
2. Lancaster
3. Newcastle
4. Warwick
5. Northumbria/Oxford Brookes
Thanks in advance, Jonny.
(P.s. I posted this thread somewhere else but was advised to put it here also) -
Re: Biomedicine at UEAI didn't do Biomed but a lot of the modules they did overlapped with modules I did. The teaching was brilliant for the most part and the labs are great. The third year research project was particularly good, if not a little daunting at first. I'll do my best to help if you have any more specific questions.(Original post by JJMick)

Re: Biomedicine at UEAI do this course(Original post by JJMick)
Hi,
, although I'm only going into second year.
The teaching isn't something I'd had any problems with. The material is always on portal a good few days before hand ( some lectures and all the seminar and lab handbooks are online at the start of term) and always in ppt if not pdf or both. Lectures are generally a good 50 mins solid and cover a whole lot, with the majority saying what parts you should concentrate on and what will fall where within the exams.
Some modules can have some wishy washy teaching but its few and far between and usually result from me not understanding the material stuff at first glance, so I loose track ( then its a viscious circle).
Labs are usually taught by the lecturer and the majority of the time fall a few hours after the relevant lecture. Theres about 150 people in the lab at one time but with about 5 demonstrators, lecture and a massive tv on every bench its hard to not know what to do. Plus the labs are brand new.
Hope this answers your questions and if you have any more just quote meLast edited by Jaredss; 25-07-2011 at 16:45. -
Re: Biomedicine at UEAThanks a lot for that response, I am now looking forward even more to studying (hopefully) this at UEA. Just out of interest what do you have in mind to do next, Postgrad or employment straight away?(Original post by Jaredss)

Re: Biomedicine at UEADon't really know. Got fed up with med applications and am thankful to be one a decent course that I like. Gonna get some experience both healthcare and lab based and go from there ( just not too sure how easy it is to get experience in the research building- its practically some 'thou shall not pass' places)(Original post by JJMick)

Re: Biomedicine at UEAJust to let you know that I have an offer from UEA(Original post by Jaredss)
Brilliant- hope you have a good look around and ask tonnes of questions!. Me and the guides would rather have questions than silence.
and after being impressed at the open day back in October I shall be firming that decision

Biomedicine
Hi,
So I applied for 4 medical courses and biomedicine. One of the med courses and the biomed are at UEA. unless newcastle comes through for me (unlikely when i think back to the interview) it looks like i'm going to end up on the biomed course and go for medicine postgrad (inb4 failed medic, get out). I was just wondering how tricky it is to get a 2:1 or above. I mean, i imagine it's fairly challenging, but what sort of percentage (roughly) do you get achieving 2:1 or better?
Probably being a tad more nervous than i should, but I'd really like to know whether my chances might be better served taking a gap year and reapplying first, or whether that's just a waste of time.
Cheers! -
Re: Biomedicine
Im in the same boat as you
I applied to Keele, UCL, Hull York Med, and St Georges, and i've recieved four rejections back from the medical schools...
Fortunately, HYMS offered me a course change, so i have an insurance if need be
I'm going ahead with the post-graduate medicine route, because i think it will be a lot easier than taking a year out and then having to get back into education and readjust...
On average, it takes around 60% (apparently) to get a 2:1 across the board, but thats generic and not specific to Biomedicine at UEA, it could be higher or lower than that, i don't know for sure...
On a brighter note, if you do go to UEA to do Biomedicine, you won't be alone on the Post-grad medicine route; i'll be aiming for the same as you
Hope this helps a little
