How do i calculate how many UMS marks i need to get a certain overall grade?
Hey there, how do i work out what grades and how many marks i need to get a certain overall grade in my OCR science A level. Is it just 80% of the total 600 UMS (300 from As and 300 from A2) ?

    Thanks

Re: How do i calculate how many UMS marks i need to get a certain overall grade?
    YES.
so if the subject is out of 600 (maths and sciences
    480 for an A
    420 for a B
    360 for a C
    300 for a D
    240 for an E

so if the subject is out of 400 (arts and humanities)
    320 for an A
    280 for a B
    240 for a C
    200 for a D
    160 for an E

A*s you need 270/300 at A2 and 480/600 overall for sciences
    Maths 180/200 for C3+C4. and 480/600 for an A*

A*s you need 180/200 at A2 and 320/400 overall for arts and humanities.

I found this page a few weeks ago. Download the file the OP has uploaded, and insert the marks for AS and A2 and your UMS marks. It then calculates how many UMS marks you are from getting the next grade, and also the grade you are already on. But it doesn't tell you how far you are from an A*.

    Or go on this website:

It's easy to use but you can't have your scores saved on your computer.

I thought it was 80% at AS...and also that AS and A2 aren't weighted equally? Sorry if I'm missing something.

AS and A2 are weighted equallly towards for overall A-level grade.

Although things get a bit funky when you're working out the A*.

it is 80% at AS for an A grade. 80% of the achievable UMS.
Sciences and maths are out of 300 UMS at AS (so you need 240 UMS for an A)
Arts and humanities are out of 200 UMS at AS (so you need 160 UMS for an A)
