Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?
Hi
I have firmed Birmingham for Maths with Business for 2012 undergraduate entry...
Just wondering if anyone on here had recieved the excellence scholarship in the past, and has any details of what the usual grades which scholarship winners have obtained?
Thanks in advance...

Re: Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?4A*s was the cut off to get an interview this year, but since there's only 10 or so spaces split between the whole college it's tough even if you do get the grades.(Original post by Phoebe x)

4A*s was the cut off to get an interview this year, but since there's only 10 or so spaces split between the whole college it's tough even if you do get the grades. -

Yep.
Oh wow! :/ are you a current student at bham then? And so if you get two or three A*s you don't think you could get a scholarship, for example ? -
Re: Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?Yeah, I am. Well, for us, there was an email sent around, just saying that anyone who achieved four or more A*s at A Level would be eligible for consideration for it- two or three would only get you other subject specific scholarships (I had three and got a very nice sum for that, but that was a Physics scholarship, as opposed to the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, where the excellence scholarship comes from, and I don't know if Maths do anything like that, sorry).(Original post by Phoebe x)

One point to note though; with the fee rise this year the uni is changing some of the scholarships they give out. Whether of not the Excellence Scholarships are affected I'm not sure on, but if you feel you're someone who might be performing well enough to get it, then get in touch with either your head of admissions or someone from the College of EPS and query them about it. No harm in asking. -
Re: Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?Having four A*s (or being predicted them) is no guarantee of getting an offer at the likes of Oxbridge/other top unis. Then again, others may have just done significantly better than they expected.(Original post by Phoebe x)
I just thought thast perhaps people who are on for 4 a*s may choose another uni rather than birmingham - its not the top of the top if you know what I mean?

Re: Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?
Ahhh okay
well done that's amazing what you got ! And I'm not sure I have an A* in maths but I'm not sure what I will get in the summer tbh, but I think this year the excellence scholarships are 5 grand per annum and the maths one is one sum of 3 grand
so either would be great anyway! Thanks for the info tho , I didn't expect it to be that high grades to be considered haha!

Re: Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships ?
There are different kinds of scholarships.... if you dont get the 5,000 one there are other types, e.g Birmingham do one for 1350 each year if you get AAB at least (or equivalent things in other stuff like IB). http://www.as.bham.ac.uk/studentlife...hamgrant.shtml
