Dinner for shmucks

Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

    Dinner for shmucks
Anyone seen this film? I thought that it wasn't too bad. Paul Rudd is invited to bring along someone to a corporate dinner for his boss to quietly make fun of all the guests. Steve Carell is the person that he chooses. The dinner scene itself is short and relatively unfunny but the rest of the film isn't too bad in some bizarrely amusing ways. It is mostly quite dry comedy though - there weren't a lot of laughs in the cinema that I was in. It reminded me a bit of The Cable Guy in some ways.

Overall, it's not all good but it does have its moments. It will never be a mainstream hit but it does have a kind of 'Three to tango' guilty pleasure feel about it.

It's actually a crappy movie that isn't worth the money.

Although I haven't seen it, I have it on good authority that it's a terrible, nasty, smug film.

Aw no. This is one of those situations where I feel like I need to watch it but I know i'll be disappointed.

Will have to supplement it with Scott Pilgrim maybe.

wasn't the funniest film ever but I thought it was good enough to watch, Steve Carrell was the only person that made me laugh as usual and I didn't expect Paul Rudd to be funny I haven't seen him make me laugh in a film yet

it's a bad, bad Hollywood remake (no surprise there then) I'd pass on this one if I were you.

I personally thought it was very good. Seems like I'm in the minority on this one.

Isn't it a remake of a French film? (Le diner de cons).

Yes it is a remake. I love the dryness of Steve Carell's character in the whole film e.g.:
'In the words of John Lennon; you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not'.

It's not a remake, it was simply inspired by it.
