Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training?
Well this weekend I visited a friend and we went out to a club and afterwards I was starving and had a maccy d's and this morning I had a burger and chips again.
I've been doing hard athletics training monday-thursday since september and lost a load of weight and recently been hitting the gym to get toned/ defined.
I was just really if this would affect my fitness, will i get slower times or is it okay as I hardly eat take away food? -

No it would not hamper your progress if its once in a while. Its even suggested that you satisfy your cravings and move on by continuing your fitness program instead of trying to supress them, which may cause problems such mood swings, demotivation, stress etc. A lot of people give up on their "diets" (I hate this word) because they try to cut all junk out too quickly but many end up exactly where they started after a few weeks. My suggestion is next time you feel like binging, either earn it or pay for it. So if you want to have a slice of cake, put in more effort during your workout to burn more calories and then have your cake based on the amount of calories burn, that way you earn it. If it was a spur of the moment thing and you had 3 big slices of pizza then you pay for it by burning AT LEAST half the calories consumed during your next workout.

Re: Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training?
I don't think pigging out is recommended at all to be honest. Pretty sure that's just hopeful thinking. It's not a bad idea to reward yourself once in a while with some nice, not especially healthy, food but this doesn't mean having a binge and going all out. One meal won't change much but ideally you want your diet to be fairly consistent.
To be honest, after a while you stop craving that sort of thing. I used to eat so much junk food but then I stopped and changed up my diet. I 'rewarded' myself with a pizza hut takeaway once but I found it pretty gross even though before I loved it.
Anyway, you'll be fine, it's just one meal. The real problem is the short term effects of fast food... makes you sluggish the next day. -

You have to weigh up everything in general rather than just looking at one event. If you've worked hard during the week, then one pig out session won't hurt. When I know I'm going to eat a lot in the evening, I make sure I do a really good exercise session during the day to make up for it at least a little bit.

Re: Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training? Not by anyone specific...I don't think. But the general idea is that having that day off can help you stay on track because then your routine doesn't become tedious coz you have that day to sort of look forward to.(Original post by Besakt)
By who?
Another thing (which I'm not entirely sure the accuracy of) is that the day off can sort of give your metabolism a shock so you don't hit a plateau any time soon -
Re: Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training? That's recommended I think but pigging out is way too strong. When people say like, a treat, they mean a not covered in grease, entire cake etc.(Original post by Vixen47)

No idea about the metabolism thing though. -
Re: Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training?Yeah, of course. Pigging out when training/working out has it's limits...sadly(Original post by Dr. Bassman)

It should be recommended. The classic cheat day, One day a week, preferably Sunday, eat anything you want any time you want. Don’t think about portions, carbs. Eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and as much as you want. This is actually a good thing for you body, because it helps convince your body that you are not starving therefore stopping it from storing fat!

I used to have a cheat day. It's usually a Sunday and consists of pizza and ice cream. It's popular in the MMA community. Eddie Bravo actually has pictures of his cheat day food because it gets crazy.
It's called "fat day"
I can eat what I want but only for that day. It's just to cut me some slack and be normal for a change

Re: Does pigging out once in a blue moon affect training?it really depends on what youre going to eat. Its okay to have something like ice cream once a week as long you've been good and even then a large amount is not recommend. However something like a take away should be very rare as its possible for 1 serving to take up 100% of your calorie intake if your on a calorie restrictive diet.(Original post by MancBoy)
How often can you have a cheat day? Is it every week/fortnight/month?
