Re: Any miracle throat cures
If you can get hold of some codeine, 2 500/30mg co-codamol will get rid of it, or I think you can buy 500/8mg over the counter.
Or just paracetamol by itself.
possibly, as I can only say from personal experience (it got rid of my sore throat completely on a couple of occasions) so it's probably not the best advice./(Original post by callumbm)
Ps as far as a previous poster commented, codeine containing products aren't very appropriate for a sore throat.Last edited by moya; 21-03-2012 at 16:26. -
Re: Any miracle throat cures
Can anyone help me.
I don't have a sore throat, however am having to remove phlegm from my throat every minute or so. If I don't, I feel like I'm going to choke and it can be very unfortable. I did give sex to a gay guy a few weeks ago, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. -
Re: Any miracle throat cures
Gargle some salt water. Make sure it's pretty salty.
Gargle it for around 1 minute now, one before you brush your teeth for bed.
Don't swallow it.
And if you're not used to it take a little sip in your mouth and leave it in there for a few seconds so you know what's coming, then spit it out.
If it's caused by bacteria, that will get it, if not, it won't do any harm.
Keep hydrated.
Make sure you get plenty of sleep.
Make sure you eat enough.
Good luck! -
Re: Any miracle throat cures
Hi, I'm work in a community pharmacy. Anaesthetic throat spray is the most effective relief. It's immediate and lasts longer than most soluble pain relief. It'll freeze the back of your throat to the extent that you can't really feel yourself swallowing. It's a strange sensation but totally effective. You can get it over the counter at any pharmacy. Don't take it if you're asthmatic though. Boots do their own version which is slightly cheaper than other brand names.
Also, if you believe this is the start of a cold or flu try Vicks First Defence. It's a spray that irrigates the passages behind the nose where cold and flu viruses love to hide initially. Well worth keeping in the house, haven't had a cold since I bought a unit 6 months ago.
Hope this helps
Ps as far as a previous poster commented, codeine containing products aren't very appropriate for a sore throat. If you do develop cold or flu like symptoms, please bare in mind that you should not take paracetamol or ibuprofen with any other cold or flu medications that contain the same active ingredients (and a lot of them do). Always read the information leaflet to double check for doses/allergies/contraindications/side effects.Last edited by callumbm; 21-03-2012 at 15:33. -
Re: Any miracle throat cures
A few friends of mine swear by warm blackcurrant squash for relief (they made me try it last night - worked far better than the cup of tea did in any case). One part blackcurrant; three parts boiled water; one part cold so you don't burn yourself.
Otherwise paracetamol and strepsils. -
Re: Any miracle throat cures
It's probably a bit late now but I've just seen this.
1 - Keep VERY hydrated, if your piss isn't clear, drink up!
2 - Use anaesthetic throat spray, 'Vicks' is very good.
3 - Pain killers and anti-inflammatories are a must. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen.
A doctor once told me that the best way was to get non-soluble aspirin tablets, crush them up and put them in a small glass of cold water (only a mouthful of water). Swirl it around your mouth and gargle with it, tip your head back for 5 seconds and then spit out the water. The powdered Aspirin will then be sitting right in the back of your throat and will be rapidly absorbed into the inflamed areas of the throat and is one of the best ways to help a sore throat.
I tried it after he said it, and I swear by it now, it's incredibly effective and and you just need to carry around a bottle of water and aspirin tablets with you. No need to carry a lemon, a jar of honey, fresh blackberries, ginger, a bag of sugar or a hair from a unicorn.
Honestly, give it a go.
