'Chronicle' - Is it just me? Have I looked into it too much?

Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

'Chronicle' - Is it just me? Have I looked into it too much?
    I've just watched 'Chronicle'.

At first; it was quite good; nice premise; I had a few laughs.

As the film began to progress, I began to get more serious, more stern and began to think about it more - it was no longer a superhero-type film.

It seemed to be trying to convey some sort of message - something along the lines of what people feel when they're abused (i.e. bullied, feel oppressed etc).

The rage consumed the main character - he just felt anger; he wanted revenge for everything unjust done to him; he wanted everybody to pay.

For some odd reason, as the film progressed, I seemed to be thinking of those school massacres we occasionally hear of...

Anyway, I'm being quite incoherent at the moment.

    Basically:

Am I looking into it too much? Is it just another bog standard superhero film, or is it trying to convey something deeper? Because I have to say, I came out of this film feeling different; normally with other standard films, I feel a bit dumber...

In short, your thoughts (that is, if you've watched it of course!)?

    You are right.

The film does begin with the whole 'Hell yeah!!! this is awesome, i can fly, WOOP!!!

But that's the whole thing of the film, it shows you how power changes people.

How having the ability to change things isn't always good.

I absolutely loved the film. And a huge part of me liking it so much is because it seems more 'realistic' it doesnt just stay with how great it is to be a superhero. It shows you the dark side in a poor kid who had too much to deal with and in the end, it consumed him

Yes, but I guess I must have identified too much with the film, quite way too much. I can honestly say that I've never been so provoked by any film before lol

Yes, I thought is was indeed a great film overall (it made almost 100 times its budget money as well!) and they're apparently looking to make a sequel (personally, I thought it works as a stand-alone-leave-it-as-it-is; but I'm not complaining.).

It's basically just showing how pretty much unimaginable power can warp a person into something evil, if people have so much power they need not fear the consequences, then some will fulfil dark desires.

As you say there is also the whole weakling who gets bullied sort of snaps when he has this power, sort of gets revenge on everyone for the bad treatment he's received in his life.
