I liked Sense when I had it on my Desire, but I haven't really missed it since rooting and switching to an AOSP rom tbh.

    AOSP.

Sense has become far too bloated up to v3.6. AOSP is just much faster and much more customisable and, at least with ICS, much prettier.

Saying all that, Sense 4 seems to be lighter, which is a positive. Will take a look at it when the xda lot port it over with the 3.x kernel.

    Yeah, I'm from XDA hahah

I have stuck with Endymion for ages. I tried CM9 yesterday, I love it, but its not stable enough for daily use... To many random reboots...

I went to CM7, but miss Sense...

PrimoS is great, but again not stable. I agree, just wait for kernel 3.0 now...

Should give IceColdSandwich a go. On it now. It's very fast and stable. Got the usual camera issues, but that's it so much I can tell.

I would prefer AOSP......reason being these roms are smaller, and take up less memory in the phone, which generally means faster and smoother perfomrance.
Also Sense have some nice featurs, some nice widgets.....I would say that its a matter of our own choices... You can try each for a few days and decide.

    Hey, fellow XDA member! Haha.

Some guys are lucky, I don't think there is an official CM9 Rom for my Sensation either. However, I am still using an AOSP ICS ROM, Virtuous Inquisition.

Haven't had a chance to try IceColdSandwich yet... are you on 7.0? The new alpha release of CM9 has the camera and camera recorder fixed! I tried it, camera works fine, and the video recorder can take videos, but when you play back the files, they are corrupted... the ROM is great. The ICS browser is a dream. However, i dont think it is quite stable yet, and it still has a few random reboots when doing intense tasks.

yeah your right. AOSP is very light, clean and fast. I have used Sense on my Desire S all the time. I switched to CM7 for a month back in January. But then i decided to return back to sense as it gives me all of the features that i need.

But now when i opened this thread, i was deciding whether to return back to AOSP... just resotred my NAND of CM7... But then returned back to Sense..

Yeah, we have unofficial nightly builds which are ported from our official maintainer (Nexx). They work well, but i don't think that they are suitable for daily use yet...

Don't you have a stable CM9 unofficial port by Vortex ATM? one of my friends with a Sensation is using it, and he highly recommends it...

    ------

i guess till we get fully functional ICS ROMs it would be much better to decide. I'm waiting for the official ICS update now, then hopefully the CM9 and other Sense 4.0 ROMs will work flawlessly with the addition of the kernel 3.0

Yeah, 7.0 indeed. I have a couple of little niggling issues, but I think a clean install instead of an upgrade from 6.1 might well fix that. 7.0 doesn't work with camcorder. Pics are pretty much spot on though. Thought CM9 seemed real laggy compared to ICS7.

ICS + Beautiful Widgets (which IIRC is still free on GetJar) + Android Pro Widgets (which is free on....questionable websites) = Sense beater, IMO.

Who are you on XDA anyway? I'm still mikeyd85.

    Re: Sense vs. AOSP
I dont mind sense in general, but the app menu is a joke. How can they possible make something so ugly?
Hence the reason I used launcher pro/NOVA launcher when I (If I ever) get the ICS update. I hat the bloody app draw so much that I am not willing to over look it for the few things sense offers that I like.

Having said I like it, I dont really see why everyone raves about sense. I dont see what it offers that is so superb, or unique.
As a result of the crap they think is an acceptable way to launch an app, AOSP every time.

Before you ask why Im using launchers, its because Im not willing to lose my sensation xe's warranty. I had a lovely time with my HD2, I was one of the people who actively helped devs and chefs cook up decent the first android roms (Im a mod on XDA )! It was all going so well, until something went wrong with the phones radio - Through no fault of my own! It went wrong on a stock rom, with a stock radio (Phone was rooted though.). The phone completely refused to accept new radios, stock or not and as a result it was completely useless. I was tied into another year of a contract with nothing to show for it! Not making that mistake again with the sensation, so I'll just have to deal with the crap stock roms come with

@mikeyd86 - nice! I already have the Beautiful widgets clock, its great, but not as good as Sense Weather clock IMO (live animations aren't as good)

The new CM9 alphas (based on 4.0.4) seem to be much faster in comparision to the old alphas!

Have you tried proxusers Sense 4.0 primo ROM yet? It is seriously amazing.

On Endymion ATM, been my primary ROM since 2.1 came out.

    I'm olyloh6696 at XDA

I see some of your posts there from time to time

    -------------

    @lonelykatana

In Sense 3.6 HTC have changed the menu bar to default ICS 5 icons.

Haven't you already got the update? I thought it was already released!!

I bricked my TG01 a few months ago installing a WP7 ROM... Bad feeling right? Must have been a corrupted bootloader download for me...

Anyway, I think its unlikely to brick your Sensation flashing ROMs. It mainly gets bricked when you flash radios!! - avoid it unless you need to

So who are you on XDA?

I'm sure I read you can now get the Sense clock in AOSP ROMs now. It's in one of the DS ROM threads IIRC.

Yeah, wasn't a fan. Guess I've got used to AOSP ICS a little too much...

Used to run Endy 3.x for a long while. Lovely ROM that one. Only left it when ICS ROMs started emerging with EGL working.

Used it on CM9 a couple of days ago

But its not the actual clock, its a skin which is an exact clone of the HTC clock visually. (So it doesn't have the weather animations)

Did you ever try Reaper by Lowveld?

I'll be happy to switch to ICS when we get a kernel 3.0... I can't live with the ICS bugs ATM....

I really love the ICS browser!

    Ahhhh nice.

    Can't say I have - any good?

I can live with bugs. The crackling audio in 7.0 would normally put me off, but as I have tinnitus at the mo, it doesn't really bother me.

ICS browser is good... but when Chrome is out if beta, it'll slaughter everything on the market.

And the dev has also made a few other skins, you can check then out!

I had a quick go on Chrome beta, seems nice!

Chrome beta is nice, but still far from perfect sadly. That said, I find myself using it way more often than the stock ICS browser, simply because I find it easier to move between tabs. Also, bookmarks can be easily moved between chrome PC and mobile browser.

There is this annoying bug which whites out the address and tab bar at the top when you have it running for a long time, and frequently minimize and re-open the app.

    HTC Desire S...

Assuming you already got the ICS update... Lucky you

HTC have just said that Desire owners won't get it till the 2nd half of the year... Damn.

Yes, I probably did get the update...

But the thing is I don't actually have it :ahee:

Using Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.1 (Running ICS 4.0.3 AOSP), literally a week before my phone got the update! (I knew it would be short wait if I tried rooting after the update, as the devs would cook up a new formula hehe)

Just be patient buddy, you will get it eventually... I think Desire owners are actually lucky to get the ICS update, as I simply wasn't expecting it. (Hey, not saying you don't deserve it or anything though! )
