Actuarial - Graduate Schemes, Requirements and Experience

Hi.

I'm an A2 student who's interested in becoming an actuary in the future. I'll be starting an undergrad degree in Actuarial Science this September (can't wait!) but just wanted to ask about employment prospects and work experience...

1. What kind of graduate schemes does KMPG run for graduate actuarial trainees? What kind of academic requirements do you look for? I've tried following the link on your site, but all it does is bring up a blank page for me!

2. I currently have no real work experience. I completed two weeks in a Quantity Surveying office three years ago, and have a part time job in retail, but despite numerous efforts have failed to get any related to actuarial. Would this be a problem when it comes to recruitment? Where would you suggest asking for work experience? I have tried small local accountants, banks etc.

3. Does KMPG offer any Actuarial work experience or internships?

4. Could I have any contact details for someone within recruitment for your actuarial area? I have a couple of further questions which I'd feel more comfortable asking more personally, however emails have gone unanswered which makes me feel I am contacting the wrong person!

Thank you in advance, look forward to hearing back!
Good morning,

Thanks for your questions!

We have various opportunities for graduates as follows:

Investment Advisory: http://www.kpmgcareers.co.uk/Graduates/TaxandPensions--InvestmentAdvisory_(2769).aspx?pg=276

Pensions: http://www.kpmgcareers.co.uk/Graduates/TaxandPensions--Pensions_(463).aspx?pg=463

Risk Consulting Actuarial: http://www.kpmgcareers.co.uk/Graduates/Advisory--RiskConsulting--RiskConsulting-Actuarial_(7855).aspx?pg=7855

We won't make a decision on your application based on any one factor, but will take a rounded view based on these three key areas: academic results, work experience and your performance in a Situational Judgement Test.

As a general rule, you’ll be expected to meet the following requirements:

Minimum grade B GCSE Maths and minimum grade B GCSE English Language (or equivalent)
Minimum of 320 UCAS Tariff points* (or equivalent)
Minimum 2:1 degree in any discipline.

*Please note, that we only consider a candidate’s 'top' 3 A-level grades and do not accept General Studies.

We do occasionally relax these criteria if there are extenuating circumstances. For example, you may like us to consider something that has affected your academic results. On the application form, you’ll find a section that allows you to detail such circumstances.

In addition to your academic qualifications, we also look at your behavioural competences in nine key areas. By Behavioural Capabilities we mean the skills and behaviours which you will need to demonstrate to be successful at KPMG. You can demonstrate these through academic work, hobbies, part-time jobs or extra-curricular activities.

All the best,

Lizzie.
