does anyone know what we need to understand about the electrophillic substition like what is the reaction with benzene the reagents and conditions
also how much depth do we need to understand the polymers like do we need to know the reactants for kevlar and nylon 6,6 etc
thanks in advance, kind regard
I take it you are studying for OCR A (not OCR B Salters).
You need to be able to draw the mechanism for electrophillic subs (including making the electrophile and reforming the catalyst) and be able to name the reagents and conditions for nitration of benzene and halogenation of benzene. See this website: http://www.scribd.com/doc/24911493/R...es-Robbie-Peck
You need to be able to talk about condensation polymerisation and addition polymerisation and understand that condensation polymers can be broken down by hydrolysis. You don't need to know the monomers for kevlar and nylon 6,6, but you need to be able to work out what the monomers are when given the polymer chain.
I'd recommend you print out a copy of the syllabus and have a look through it as it should make clear how much detail you need.
