Do universities accept online A-Levels?
Hi, so I've been trying to study Spanish A level for a while now, but no schools or colleges in the area offer the opportunity, so I have finally begun to look into doing it online, as I want to study Modern Foreign Languages at university.
If all goes to plan, I will have 3 good A grades for Biology, Classical Civilisation and French, studied at school to A2 level, and an EPQ project, and after finishing school I wish to take a Gap year in Spain to further improve my language skills and earn some money!
So, my question is; do I actually need to study Spanish at A level, and, if it is better to do so, what is the general attitude taken by universities towards online A-level courses?
Thanks -
Re: Do universities accept online A-Levels?
You understand that thousands of people learn subjects online and give the exam each year, right? Universities wont care unless you tell them about it which I assume you would only if you got a bad grade due to lack of teachers assistance or that you want to gloat about how good you are at self learning. Either way it wont matter how you learnt it to them.

Re: Do universities accept online A-Levels?
It will be obvious from the way you need to fill in the education section that you have done this, so unis will know and will care.
You probably will need to study Spanish at A Level, as you will need some form of certificate to prove your skills. Anyone can say they're fluent in a language so in itself that means **** all, but saying you got a certain grade shows you are really at that level. And although the course itself will be online/distance learning you will need to find an exam centre which can be expensive.
Also, you need to think carefully about how you're going to achieve this. A large part of learning languages is being able to speak them. How will you practise this? -

Course it's fine.
If anything they will be impressed you did it online because it shows your dedication and the fact you can work independently.
I'd get a tutor though or something to practice your speaking skills. Also make sure there's going to be somewhere for you to take the exams... you said nowhere near you offers the course so they probably won't offer the exams either (mainly due to the oral exam part of the course). You'll need to make some phone calls to nearby colleges/schools and find out places that will be willing to do all the annoying paperwork for you and stuff.
