Can My college postpone some of my AS exams?
I have some hard subjects and have experienced some family toubles over the past year. My GP knows I have been suffuring from depression and over the past 3 months it has really been ****ing with me. This is proven through te fact that before I was an A grade student. My college states I must gain DDDD to go onto A2 but I honestly don't think im capable right now. Does anyone know wether they could let me postpone 2-3 examinations until January of my A2 year? I think if I were to take them this summer i would fail and inturn not be allowed to carry on to next year. I am pretty stressed right now and I don't know were to turn. Any advice?

There are some options. You can possibly ask your GP to send a letter/note to your college stating the current situation of yourself. This entirely depends on whether your GP thinks it's the best option to go with.

You could also talk to your director of year or whoever is in charge at your college. Explain to them your situation and they might move your exams to January. Orrrrrrr, you could ask for something called 'special consideration' where the exam board has you on a special type of list where you can get a maximum of 5% more marks on your total marks of exams (The percentage depends on the severity of your situation, I got 5% due to losing a direct family member)

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask

WHAT?! I didn't know that! Well I guess 5% isn't actually that much but it is the difference between a B and an A.

Indeed, I was surprised by this too. Just makes things more complicated. 5% is better than nothing especially when something unavoidable has affected you achieving your best potential.

Do the exams and submit the extenuating circumstances to the school who should in turn submit them to the examination board.

You never know, you may do better than you'd expect. If not, the school has the documented circumstances to allow you to continue to A2.

The first thing you must do is go and talk to your tutor, head of sixth or whoever you feel most comfortable talking to in school about this. No one can help you if they don't know you have a problem. Talk to them SOON - the school can get a refund on exam entries up to 21 April and I'm sure they would appreciate not wasting money unnecessarily. Different places treat this sort of thing very differently so there's not much anyone can say on TSR - you have to talk to your college.

Someone has talked about applying for special consideration for your exams this summer. 5% is the absolute maximum that can be awarded by the rules so don't count on getting that (and they never tell you what, if anything, you are awarded).
