Smoking Experiences

I asked a doctor about the risks of occasional smoking once, or smoking one cigarette daily and what it would do and he told me that it'd do nothing really.

If you know yourself it'll only ever be the occasional smoke then I see no reason (other than addiction) why you should deprive yourself of something you clearly enjoy, especially when there are much worse addictions out there such as alcohol.

I've smoked occasionally since quitting and I am ridden with guilt the day after so I don't enjoy it. Plus it makes it much harder for me to achieve my fitness goals.

Oh I though we were keeping it to cigarettes only. I have had my share of trouble with alcohol as well, did not need any medical intervention, but I drink upto half a bottle (360ml) of hard liquor, and 10-12 pints of beer on a bad (good!) day. But yes, I am far away from losing my battle with it, it is my muse and intellectual companion.

I gave up smoking last may after over 20 yrs.I had decided that I'd had enough and was fed up by the way I was a slave to nicotine and couldn't go anywhere without my fags.Giving up wasn't too bad and I was too stubborn to quit giving up.I must admit that I am surprised that I still crave a fag after all this time,I thought that once the nicotine had left my body that would be it.I guess I miss the buzz that smoking can give some users. However I bet that if I was to have a smoke it'd make me feel sick.

Still I'm not going to go back to them.

He's not my doctor actually. He's someone I speak to who is a doctor.

And why is he an idiot?

I used to smoke every now and then when I was in college because I would spend a lot of time with a good friend, who's a smoker, in the Smoker's area. I liked the taste and I enjoyed the socialising experience that came with it. But I always hated, and still hate, the smell it leaves on my fingers.

Nowadays I usually just have one when I'm really stressed or paniced about something, or just if I feel like having one when I'm around friends who smoke. A pack of 10 will last me months as I just have them there for emergency.

I think it's down to mindset. If you're a procrastinater you'll get addicted because you think you'll be alright for now and will stop another day. If you're one of those people who feels bad every time you do something like that then you won't.

When I first tried it (I don't smoke now - age, etc) it felt amazing purely because I was very stressed, It is a complete guilty pleasure of mine, and it would mean I would end up very drunk less.. I definitely would smoke again, there's no denying it, but that's mainly because I know that I would only want 1, maybe 2 a day

I've smoked weed a few times since I was about 15, but smoked my first cigarette last week. I was curious and it looks cool. I expected to hate it, but the taste was quite pleasant and it made me feel good. I smoked another one right after, and then another three yesterday. I have a lot of self-control though, so I reckon I'll only do it a few times a month.

wouldnt that have ruined the cigarettes leaving them that long seeing as theyre perishable ?
What are you lot on about?

Are you promoting smoking:confused:

My first cig was given to me by my brother and father, clearly idiots, I was about 10 years old or maybe younger.

It is a filthy habit, I used to smoke but I have no idea why, maybe because of what I said above, or maybe I was a stupid youth unable to make responsible decisions (ya think). Once you become hooked it can be hard to stop if you do not have the will power, these champix and what have ya are no good if you do not have the will power to stop.

Fair enough we breathe vehicle/factory fumes and air contaminants every day but to ask what benefits there are to smoking seems a bit sadistic. It would be like me asking what are the benefits of injecting heroin:confused:

Basically there are no benefits to smoking unless you are the company selling the products people are smoking.

More cons than pros sorry.

Cons: Yellowing of teeth. Increased risk of: Gum disease. Oral cancer. Cancer x. Cancer y. Cancer z. Lung disease. Bad breath. Emphysema.

Pros: Cannot think of any.

Crazy thread.

just thought id throw in here despite the obvious bas side effects of smoking there are, contrary to what youve said, certain benefits to it aswell.
for instance it has been proven to be protective against parkinsons disease, and a few other conditions aswell.
and comparing smoking to shooting heroin..really?

All of what you said is true, hence why I'm a non-smoker now.

My post was more about nostalgia than actually thinking it's good to smoke.

Everyone knows that something any amount of cigarettes is harmful, you cannot moderate the way you kill yourself.

Which is why that doctor's an idiot for saying what he/she did.

I specifically asked about physical damage, not addiction.

Yes any amount of cigarette smoke is gonna damage you, but there's a difference between 1 a day and 20 a day, is the point he was getting at.

Hi I tried smoking for the first time today... And I am guility enough to say I kind of enjoyed it in a way I found it interesting, got a sort of buzz from it and liked the taste sort of... I obviously know smoking is bad for me can people here just tell me their experiences of smoking, what they like/what they don't like? What they find benefits them from smoking

I found it very confusing as I have always been anti smoking.

The only thing you get from smoking is a habit, and the only thing that smoking does for you once you've got the habit is to make the cravings go away.

At least when you have a drink or a joint, you get something out of it. You get nothing from smoking except bad health.
