Can I postpone my third year?
I'm just about to finish my second year... But I've just found out that I'll be inheriting a lot of money from a distant relative over the next few weeks which will mean I will no longer need a degree because i'm not going to HAVE to work! I still love my subject and would like to complete the degree at some point but I don't think I'll have the focus straight away after I inherit the money to do essays and exams... This is completely out of the blue and I'm not sure what to do with myself!!

Is it possible to complete this year and then just postpone the third year until I've had time to enjoy my good fortune? Will I able to take my second year grades and finish my degree at another university closer to home?

    Would really appreciate your advice.

    My advice:

Set the money aside. Finish university. Remember you have the money. Good times.

Most unis will let you take a year out although some will want it for a good reason. Talk to your tutor about it. To be honest though, I would just get your degree out of the way and not touch your money until after.

So you plan to postpone your third year until you've had enough time to blow your inheritance?

Finish your degree, invest the money, and carry on as before, using the interest to supplement your student loan. At least then you'll have had time to think about what you're going to do with the money, other than piss it up a south east asian wall.
