Considering doing some math modules in June
One of which is M4, just for the fun of it,
    a) Is M4 too challenging to achieve in this time?
    b) What are thoughts on just the general idea of it?

    Thanks for theee opinions

It'd help if we knew a bit more about your mathematial background. Have you done any other maths modules before? If so how did you find them?

I have a qualification in maths and further maths, A* and A respectively, I found it relatively easy and basically I am trying to get a fix on whether M4 is sufficiently more challenging, thanks alot mate =]

I remember M4 being a fair amount more difficult than M3 (bear in mind this was half a decade ago) but if you're getting As and A*s in maths and further it shouldn't be anything you can't manage.

If you're looking for a bigger challenge then maybe have a look at http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mathematics/ there are some pretty interesting video lecture series there.

That's really helpful - so in this respect then maybe M4 would be too much in a month or?

The lectures look interesting - although no formal qualification would come of it do you think it would be worthwhile spending time on looking at these intead?

    Thanks alot.

It'd probably take a fair amount of work to learn M4 in a month, but if you really work at it then you should be able to do it. To put it into context, I managed to self teach S2 & S3 in a fortnight with a bit of hard work (although they were alot easier than M4)

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you're wanting to do it other than for a challenge? Is it going towards your A-Levels? I sort of assumed that you already had them.

I linked you to the lectures just because I thought you might be interested. There's no formal qualifications but sometimes it's just fun to do maths for the hell of it. (Or maybe that's just me being nerdy)

Yeh no that's cool, have the A levels yeh and so just for the hell of it which is why I am in 2 minds regarding the formal qualification

Are you planning on doing any further studies in maths at any point? if so the lectures I sent to will put you at a big advantage for that (the first two series are a large chunk of most first year courses)

Yhepp Physics at Uni , ahh cheers that sounds great however if I will be covering it again at a later point it almost seems not worthwhile(although being at an advantage sounds good), so seeing things from more of a 'I want a direct challenge side of things' I am led towards M4, however then again it's all just for the fun of it at the moment...very much in two minds haha !

Well, the maths you'll do in a physics degree will be almost entirely applied, unless you take some optional modules from the maths department then you won't cover much pure at all. M4 would be a lot more helpful in preparing for a physics degree than the lectures I linked to.

If you want to sit an examination you will have to pay late entry fees now.
