    haunted by fortune telling stuff
Basically I was being silly, went to a chinese fortune telling site
and saw lots of bad things about my future life. i have been severely affected by it, couldn't sleep, couldn't eat properly and basically became extremely depressed and anxious.

I am not a superstitious one who easily believe in stuff like horoscope and tarot cards, thinking stuff they say are always generalisation.

But the chinese fortune telling thing i read is one based on the exact time, date and year of birth, using astrology (distance between stars and sun) to map out your destiny. Its has a long history and is a sort of statistics in China at least.

What is uncanny is that in each person's birth chart, there are various 'chambers' - love chamber, health, parents, children.
Scarily enough both my brother and my 'parents chamber' share the same unfortunate stars.

And those star combination means the early death of one of my parents. And the charts also categorise people into yin or yang. Both me and my brother are 'yang' which they say dad dies first.

I am horrified. I can't get this out of my mind. Lots of the stuff are not generalisations they can be highly specific.
I regret so much, i wish i never saw those stuff.
    I have never felt worse
    what do i do
i cannot live properly knowing something bad will happen to my most beloved in the near future

oh my god, its made up, you do know that right? that no matter what it said on that website nobody knows when anyone is going to die, even if it tells you how it works it out and tries to convince you its real, its not. They come up with these elaborate formulas that might trick people into thinking its real, don't worry its not real!! do something to take your mind off it.

I'm incredibly sceptic and have never bought into anything like this. Do you honestly believe that the position of certain matter in the Universe will determine that your brother will contract cancer when he's 49, or your mother will slip in the bath and crack her head on a Sunday, or that you'll lose your job in April because.... it's April?

I'm sorry but I don't buy into 'future guessing', if the person opposite you was able to tell you incredibly accurate details of your past private history. Then yeah I guess I'd be a little bit dumbfounded but come on... Really?

Don't believe any of that rubbish, it is all made up to scam money- no scientific basis whatsoever. The certain positions of things in the universe has nothing at all to do with random negative events in your life.

Some guy* has just typed up some rubbish on the internet so that people come to his site, click on adverts/buy books so that he can make money.
He's laughing all the way to the bank while you believe his lies—ignore him

No one can possibly know what is going to happen to someone in the future!.This kind of thing really is just one big money making scheme.

Thanks for your reply, I really want to believe in you too and I have convinced myself so hard.

That chinese astrology chinese telling thing is incredibly uncanny. A women pasted her chart ( generated according to her birth time) and put onto a forum where some fortune tellers who knew how to read those charts interpreted for her. The fortune teller said you have two kids, one should have been born in 2007, the other in 2010. The women said she does indeed have two kids, one born in 08 however, and the other in 2010.

I really want to disbelieve in this thing but its quite highly regarded in China.
Please convince me that its not true.

I have visited the psychologist and its not helping. People say its statistics, and they found a pattern in destiny for people born at certain times and there are books about it, people learning about it If it really was rubbish not a lot of people would investigate time in it right. Cant underestimate the Chinese in certain things

oh if only it was untrue

Looks like it'll take a lot to convince you otherwise, but just forget about it and don't let a random website ruin your life, anything that it might have got right is a coincidence, of course no one can tell the future outside of fiction, its nonsense.

Though out of interest, what is the site?

If you keep telling yourself it's true, you'll keep thinking it.

If you're really terrified, maybe have a search on google for the number of apparently true events - many of which predicted by "highly resourceful" individuals - which never occured.

If the fear continues, I suggest looking into some books of fear of superstitious events, maybe even see a doctor if it continues to affect you to the extent it us; they'll redirect you to a suitable person who can help.

The human brain has a natural tendency to look for patterns and find connections between completely random events, it's called Apophenia.

Horoscopes/fortune telling/palm reading - none of this is supported by any scientific evidence.

We are hard-wired to pick out and remember patterns and coincidences (for example, finding 'faces' in inanimate objects or seeing Jesus on your slice of toast) and to forget randomness or those things we see/experience which don't follow a pattern.

Don't dwell on this - you'll only upset yourself needlessly. :console:

    Are you a science student?
No it didn't charge me anything
I will be doing a Physics degree this year, so I suppose I am. Basically, don't lose sleep over it- there is no way that someone could possibly use the position of matter in the universe, to predict future events- both positive and negative- in your life. There is no way that they could possibly predict that, I can say that with absolute certainty. So don't worry at all about it. There will be times when predictions do happen to come true, but that is just by random chance, and is nothing at all to do with the position of some stars. The very few times when such things do happen to come true get massive media coverage, which completely blows in out of proportion, making it seem as though the prediction came true.

And don't think that because a lot of people believe it that it has any credibility, there were times in our past when the majority of people thought that the sky was filled with water gods, and that volcanoes and earthquakes were caused by the wrath of gods. All these things are absolutely false, since we know through science how these things occur.

I saw that you mentioned the prediction of a womens children. For one thing, he didn't predict it correctly, but also it wasn't a very hard prediction to make. Most people have two children (if they have children), and by estimating her age, he could easily make fairly rough predictions of how old the children of such a women would be. It has nothing to do with any special powers, but simple estimations that anybody could do. Humans like to find patterns to try and predict things, even without any evidence what so ever, and just because a lot of people believe it, it certainly does not make it any more credible.

I think you need to consider WHY this is affecting you so much. This certainly will not be the worst thing you will have to deal with in life, and if you fall to pieces over a website then god knows how you'd cope when faced with a real problem?

    It's all made up.
