Offer two grades above my predicted?
I recently applied through UCAS Extra for Biological Sciences and received an offer shortly after. However, my predicted grades are ABB (A in Biology) but my offer was AAA, despite the grade range on the website being AAA-ABB...

I've seen various discussions about how flexible Edinburgh are with offers, but all seem to say that they rarely let people in if they haven't met the conditions. One reason for this was that Edinburgh gives low offers anyway - but given that my offer is 2 grades higher than my predictions, is Edinburgh likely to let me in if I don't achieve AAA? I'm a bit confused as to why they would give me an offer that's so unrealistic... Surely they would have just saved themselves the time and effort and just give me a straight rejection?

I'll firm the offer and see what I get in August, but I'd like to at least have a realistic idea of whether I should be preparing for a year out or not.

They probably think you can make it/ want to push you harder. It depends- do you think you can make AAA? Firm it if you want but have like a BBB insurance if you don't want a year out. It's happened. I got 35 IB points at the end of year one, so my predicted was probably like 37, if my teachers had faith. Yet I got Durham's standard offer for my course, 38 points. So it does happen- they probably like you as a candidate and don't want to reject you outright. Are you okay with the idea of a gap year? What are your other choices?

I don't mind taking a gap year, but it would be nice to go to Edinburgh. Seeing as this is my only offer because I applied through UCAS Extra (after rejecting all of my offers for Physics because I decided I didn't want to do it anymore), my insurance choice is essentially a year out as I have no other offers. It's very unlikely I'll get AAA.

Have you contact admissions and chatted to them? They are generally happy to answer questions if they can. Best info you are going to get.
