Was wondering about deferred entry ucas 2013
    Hi,

Basically, Im supposed to be starting the ucas application this September for 2013 entry but I'm not 100% certain about what I want to study though, so I am considering taking a gap year but what I'm wondering is, should I apply in September for deferred entry to next year or should I just have the gap year and decide afterwards. The only issue is if I did apply in September for deferred and changed my mind about the course during the gap year can I cancel the deferred entry or is it too late. (do I have to reply to offers before I go on the gap year) p.s. I would be hoping to go travelling for the gy. Secondly, if I just had the gap year and came back and decided I did want to go uni, I would have already left my school so wouldn't have my ucas advisor, personal statement help and references etc. Because is it not true that you have to have a ucas advisor (or someone of that sort in your school to send your application off)

Anyway would appreciate some feedback, thanks

As the whole point of your gap year seems to be to decide what to do it would be stupid to apply before then! However, if you do apply this September for a deferred place and later change your mind you can contact the uni in your gap year and ask them to cancel that - however you must do this and must receive confirmation it has been done before attempting to send a new UCAS application. If you don't your new application will be cancelled and you'll be left with nothing.

You don't need a UCAS advisor - in fact, you've already found the best one by being on TSR. You do, however, need a referee. This will be someone who knows you in an academic capacity and is thus usually someone at school. Schools can do this after you've left so it won't be an issue.

    Thanks for that
