I've applied for head girl and our speeches are on Friday. We have been told that they have to be a minimum of 8 minutes, which I think is absolutely ridiculous!? But hey ho, I have 4-5 mins so far. I don't want to bore everyone, or myself! The 6th form is at a pretty good standard so there's not much to improve on but if anyone could give me a few tips that would be great!
Btw, I cannot pull off humour!
This is it so far, hopefully you don't all fall asleep!
'For those of you who don't know me, I'm ***. I am currently studying maths, further maths, physics and psychology and I would love to eventually become a commercial pilot.
I would like to be head girl because I think it's an amazing opportunity and a great chance to give something back to the school which has made my last 4 years here, not only enjoyable, but successful too.
I probably haven't been the easiest student in my past, yet I've managed to get this far which is why I want to take this opportunity to show my gratitude towards my teachers and peers. Because of my past, I probably have a disadvantage at getting this position. You want someone that has been well behaved since they first started at this school. But I want to prove to you that I am reliable. I not only want our next year successful, I want to make it memorable, and for that, you need it to be entertaining which is something that I can definitely promise you'

I couldn't be bothered to write the rest out but there's a bit more about my skills and then theres 7 paragraphs of improvements/changes. I really don't think I can put any more in!

PLEASE HELP!
ps, if this bored you, apologies!
