    OCR -- A2 -- French Reading/Writing/Listening (&Oral)
EDIT: Updated thread for those sitting the paper!

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone else was sitting this oral exam in May? We could use this thread to test each other/look over plans/ask questions.

My speaking topic is on poverty and my question is, Jusqu'a Quel Point est-ce que La Pauvrete Un Choix Personnel? (Up to what point is poverty a personal choice?) I'm just drafting up the plan now.

How are you all finding it? Nervous/ready?

I'm doing mine a week on Wednesday, ahhh! I hate the fact we need to submit 2 titles!! I've sorted one, and I know I can talk about it for the whole 10/12 mins however long it is, it's environment-related, there's so much to say! But I still have to do another 'in case'... I'm thinking something medical-related, but it's not flowing as much as for my other one since I'm dead set on just talking about my other one. Any ideas??? Thanks!

My speaking exam is today and.. I'm terrified. My discussion is on the life, works and legacy of Louis Pasteur which I should be confident on (I event spent a while researching information about milk and cheese). I know that in English I could master that exam but I know that I'll break down. Why did I take French?

I didn't think it was necessary to submit two titles? I haven't heard anything about that anyway. Double-check with your teacher. If you do then you won't need to talk about it, so you need not learn it, so the pressure is surely off?

I've sorted it now for me I have to submit two although we're only going to talk about one after practising a couple of times. it's in the specification! Do you know your module codes by any chance? Mine F703 and then F704 for the reading/listening/writing paper. Maybe yours is different?

Mine is "La gestion d'énergie'... so I'm gonna talk about how the French need to reduce energy consumption instead of increasing production, nuclear power, transport, energy wastage etc... very boring but at least I know I have enough to talk about for 12 mins ! yours?

Doesn't your topic have to be in question form? That's what we were told anyway, though our department is an appalling shambles on the whole...

"Jus'qu'a Quel Point est-ce que la Pauvreté un Choix Personnel en France?"

Looks like you do have enough to talk about for 12 mins, I hope I do!

Well it was initially "Est-ce que les Francais devraient économiser l'énergie au lieu d'en produire?' but my teacher changed it only yesterday to the new title haha, I think just so it's broader I guess, cos I'm talking about a lot of different things.
Wow yours sounds interesting, don't think I could debate that!! When is your exam?

    Friday! Is yours tomorrow?

    My checklist:
    Tuesday
-- Print off all past paper topics
    -- Organise French speaking folder
    -- Finish vocabulary mindmaps
-- Time monologue to ensure I have enough to say
-- Write up a list of possible questions and email to teacher

    Wednesday
-- Finish writing up A4 sheet to take into the exam room

    Thursday
-- Practice responses to these questions and write them down (1/2)
-- Go through each text and make a list of unknown vocabulary
-- Create flashcards of these words and learn them (1/2)
-- Self-test on all past paper texts: general questions (1/2)
    -- Self-test on all past paper texts: text-questions (1/2)
-- Practice delivering monologue only looking at A4 paper (1/2)
    -- Learn A2 vocabulary mindmaps (1/2)
    -- Learn AS vocabulary mindmaps

Looks like a long week ahead...

Yep, had mine today, went fine luckily! I was more worried about the article, if my teacher picked one about something like art or politics, bleugh! Luckily she didn't
Ouch that looks like a painful plan :/ I've luckily got less to do because i'm french-canadian so i speak French everyday... But i still hate the written papers, i always make some silly errors in my writing!

I did my French last Thursday, and my Spanish oral the next day, boooooo. I hope your exams go well! For me, the only way I do well is to try and keep completely calm...when I panic my mind goes blank! It's only 20 minutes of your life talking in the language that you know well and enjoy studying, so try and enjoy it! (I realise this is easier said than done, but it does work) BONNE CHANCE

The most useful resource I have found is by far www.french.about.com
Check the Intermediate/High-Inter/Advanced mistakes section. It's such a good teacher. Better than my own might I say...

Everyone ready for tomorrow? Just a question, wondering if anybody knew, in the essay at the end, especially for the discursive essay, can we make stuff up :s? Like for example, if there was a q on obesity, obviously it has to relate to France, could I say 30% of French children are overweight, even though I don't know the actual statistic?

According to my teachers, you can make statistics up as long as they sound believable i.e. not "86% of children in France are morbidly obese". Yours would be fine

I'm not entirely ready for tomorrow, guess I'll just expose myself to as much french as I possibly can this evening, and hope for the best.
