    Imitigating circumstances :/
Hey all I’m currently at Nottingham university and have an exam in a few days time, I won’t be going since I’ve had severe liver problems and after seeing my gp today I have been given painkillers for the time being and a few other things. Now I’m not sure how mitigating circumstances work since the deadline for filling out the forms was like 2 weeks ago, so... what do I do now ? shall I just miss the exam and then get a doctors note or something ?

    Thanks in advance

Best thing to do is contact your tutor or course director. I'm sure they are who you should be asking tbh.

That's the thing I've spoken to one of my tutors and she actually said if I miss the exam I wont be able to resit it seeing as I wasn't there in the first place ?? Hence why I'm confused.

    Hey Mythonic~!

I'd do as dsinghdahiya suggested and talk to your personal tutor again or your course leader. I was in a similar-ish situation to you last year (in that I wasn't able to sit my exams when I should have done) but I was allowed to take the ones I missed as first-sits in the summer. That means that whilst you take the re-sit paper, the mark you get is the one you're awarded, and you're not capped at 40%. You'll probably be asked to fill out an extenuating circumstances form and get a doctor's note to prove that you're genuinely unable to go, but they should be able to do something to help you out. Just make an appointment with someone as soon as possible

    Good luck!
(And let us know how it goes!)

Hey dragon, umm thanks for the reply, my exam is on friday and I've spoken to my gp who said she'll write me a doctors note but it will take up to 2 weeks. One of my flat mates is a student rep board thing and I asked him to get me a extenuating circumstances form, apparently he asked and they said to him that the deadline for the forms have passed ? :/

Given that it's so late, I think it'd be best to try to speak to your personal tutor or course leader in person. Send them an e-mail briefly explaining the situation and ask to arrange a meeting as soon as possible, or find out when their office hours are and just turn up. I'm not really sure about deadlines at all, but I know that when I finally arranged to speak to my personal tutor, it was only a couple of days before the coursework I was supposed to complete was due in (unfortunately, I'm very good at putting important things off! :P). People on here will only be able to advise you so much unfortunately, so go and arrange that meeting as soon as you're able. In my experience, they'll do everything they can to help you out

There isn't usually an extenuating circumstances deadline - as long as it's less than 7 days after your exam/assessment they're fine although sometimes they're even flexible about that.

    http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/academic...umstances.aspx

The form is at the bottom of the page. Attach your doctor's note asap - you should be able to get it faster than in two weeks time so give them a quick call! I get mine instantly.

You can miss your exam and, if your letter is accepted, then you'll be given a first sit chance over the summer. Fail that and you get a capped resit just like anyone else would if they'd taken the exam in the first place.
