Mock results compared to the real things?
This is a question about GCSE's but A level comments would be great too
So I'm revising for my GCSE's (in year 10 - I have 4 early entries). I got A's and borderline A*'s in my mocks a couple of months ago and really really want to move those up to solid A*s. The thing is I didn't really revise for my mocks...just stuff the day before, so not really sure how I got A's at all :s
Anyway... I've convinced myself that I probably won't get better marks than in my mocks even though this time I am revising, so I really would like to know what people got in their GCSE mocks and what they actually achieved in their actual exams. Also how much did you revise in comparison to your mocks and actual exams?

Sorry if this is long and doesn't make senseeee!

Well, Congratz firstly on those mock results Well Done, Just keep on going and Work that extra bit hard and you will get there

Dont know if this will help but, I was not that 'bright' i had learning difficulties when i was young and was predicted a 6 C's , I worked very very hard and i managed to get 5 B's and a C ( not A'* but for me it was!! very big)

Therefore in short, just step it up and work that extra bit harder Best of Luck

GCSE mocks: A*s and a few A's just like you. I revised for them a week before perhaps? In no way did I put in the effort I did for real GCSE revision.

In my GCSE's I got all A*s. It's achievable if you work hard and make sure you know the technique and knowledge that separates an A* answer as opposed to an A.

I did far about half the revision for my mock Maths exam in January and ended up with exactly the same overall mark as my real one. I'm not really sure why it happened.. :/ especially as we hadn't covered all the topics by the mock..

I think most of your mocks are an indication of what you're capable of now and just revise the topics that you found hard on the mocks!

Doing A Level mocks, personally I've not prepared a lot, but if you put the work in for the real exam you wil be fine.

There is a lot of time between mocks and the final exam, so you certainly can't compare the both, at the time of the final exams you will probably be a lot better than you were at mocks.

I don't work hard for mocks, in A-Level mocks i got a B in chemistry and A* in maths, I had finished most of my preparation for maths so i did well in mocks, but for chemistry i hadn't done much. In the final exams, i got A* in both maths and chemistry.

If you work hard, you can easily get A*s in all subjects.

I got a low c in my Business Studies Mock for A level.

I got full marks for the year in the actual tests.

Well for A- level with pretty much just reading my notes every now and again I got BBDD and I'm now being predicted AABB for my real exams, I think mocks are just there to see how well you are doing at that current time , I wouldn't get overly cocky about mocks though still put in time to revise etc. and go out and have fun... In the end I had too much fun and ended up with 1 A* 7As 3 Bs and a C which has screwed up my medical applications so I've had to work 4x as hard to attempt to get AAAA but as I have said earlier my teachers reckon I will get AABB (Maths, Biology, Chemistry Geology)

    Mocks: 11 A*
    Real: 8 A*, 3 A
Did you revise much for your real ones then, or what did you think went made you move down slightly? Not meaning to say anything went wrong though, these are fantastic results!

Well 2 of my As were English Lit. & Lang., and in all the past paper questions I'd been doing in lessons, I'd found that my marks varied a lot, but I never worked out why!

I guess I just wasn't comfortable with the questions in the real exams :p:

Business Studies was my other A, I hated it tbh. Perhaps I could've done a little more work for it. :p:

My GCSE mocks were pretty awful - I don't tend to bother much for those, so mine were a few As and Bs and then an E for Chemistry (hated that one ). My actual grades were better, apart from the three sciences which I'm no good at

The last mock I did before my Jan A2 economics exam I got 100%, and then I got 74% in the exam O.o

Well on my mocks I got all A* and then the same again for my 16 GCSE's which I got all A*. But I revised less than on my real GCSE's in which I did thorough revision etc. Hope you do really well.

Straight C's and an A in IGCSE mocks...2 A*'s, 7A's and a C in the real thing, all it takes is hardwork

Did you know if you have a valid excuse for not coming into to your real exam...they use your mock results but put it down a grade.

I should think it would be more sensible to put it a grade up? Or leave it alone? Generally, as seen here, people seem to do better the second time round

On a side note a couple people I know have scored 100% on mocks or just lost a mark or two...must be annoying when revising knowing that it's not possible to move up but far more possible to get worse
